I have a hard time believing it was a Tiger shark. but I have seen a Reef shark and a Nurse shark at Jumbie before.

My husband has frequently (ok maybe 2 or 3 times) seen nurse sharks in that area. I doubt too it was a tiger shark, but I guess anything is possible. My money is on a nurse shark. One he saw he estimated at 9 or so feet, which means probably about 6 feet :)

I believe it was a large shark, also believe it was a tiger. The folks were on island last May, went fishing and of 4 fish caught, not one was landed whole, the sharks got the rest. I also heard that there were tigers out there, feeding on a whale carcass in the last year as well, it was towed to remove them from most tourists view. Don't be so quick to discount it.... Having been at Jumbie, I am not surprised to hear it was cruising around there... Still won't keep me out of the water at Jumbie... I would also bet that before he 'advertised' it, he checked his ID of the shark.

Who knows what he saw - personally I don't think it would be a tiger - but the whale carcass was found at the "Wreck of the Rhone" in the BVI's not anywhere near the shore of STJ.
