Scuba Diving Operator in St John

Post by Maggy »

Hi all!

I am new to this forum and have been lurking for a while. Lots of good information here!

I am from Sweden and my husband and I are coming to St John in April and will stay for a week and then continue to Virgin Gorda for another week. It's our first time to STJ but we have been to BVI twice.

I have signed up for a Scuba Diving course at home in Sweden, to get a certified diver. I will do the pool and theory sessions at home, and the four open water check out dives, in STJ.

Can anyone recommend a good safe diving operator in STJ, that also is very good with beginners? Your experiences are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum :D

I would recommend 6 Pac Scuba, 340-776-1057 - she has an excellent reputation especially with beginners

Hi Maggy - I'm taking a scuba course too, here in PA, and will be doing my certification dives in St. John with Collette at 6paq scuba in April. Collette was very responsive to my inquiries and she gets stellar reviews here on the forum...her website is 6paqscuba.com...good luck!!!

Another thumbs up for Colette of 6Paq. I tried with a different operator on my first trip to STJ VERY unsuccessfully. It just moved too fast and was too impersonal. Colette managed to get me under to about 30 ft after about an hour or so on shore and in shallow water. I had a little hyperventilation problem and it was freaking me out every time I tried to put my face in the water. She was amazing at calming me and giving me advice that made sense to me.

Enjoy!

Thank you all very much for your fast replies!

I'd better check their website out and get in contact with them. Sounds like they are just what I am looking for. I do certainly want it small scale, personal and no rush. It's such an adventure anyway and not like anything you have done before, so you better take it in your pace.

I did a resort course in Turks and Caicos last year, and after that I did two more dives. I really got hooked, so this year I thougt that I should get certified. Unfortunately my husband is not ready for diving yet, but he loves to snorkel. Do you think he can ride along, and snorkel when I dive?

Thank you, Anita!

I have emailed them now, to find out if they have availibility for me.

By the way - I love your photos! Specially the Flying Guanard. I have yet to see one of those! Beautiful colors.

Hi Maggy
Welcome to the Forum and more so – Welcome to Scuba. I’ve been diving for 30 plus years and I too have to give Colette of 6-Paq a double thumbs up. My wife was newly certified and just didn’t have the confidence with scuba. After diving with Colette – she can’t wait to do it again. I will be on STJ with 3 newly certified divers, plus my wife and myself and we have already book with Colette. I would highly recommend anyone new to the sport to hook up with 6-Paq. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thank you FlaGeorge!

Feels great that so many of you have good experiences with them. I have been in contact with Colette, and hopefully we can work out something. Since it's only me, it's a bit more expensive (60 USD more for one person iso two), so I really hope she can match me up with someone else.
