Villa Rental Agreement

Post by Adrienne »

Can't remember - been a while - does this sound about right for cancellation policies?

"Total booking charges (less any taxes) are non-refundable unless the property owner is able to re-rent the amenities reserved. If the property is re-rented, 20% of the deposit will be kept as a service fee to cover our costs. Guests are encouraged to purchase travelers' insurance, especially when traveling during hurricane season, July-November. Our wonderful location puts us at high risk of hurricane strikes. In the event of a hurricane, the property owner is not responsible for airline changes, cancellations, fees or the cost of alternate accommodations, and no refunds/adjustments can be offered."

It is a bit stricter than some I have seen but it is the same one we agreed to for our upcoming house.

In year's past, through other agencies, I think the policy was no cancellation fee prior to 60 days, after 60 days, about what you've outlined here.

I have found, from personal experience, that they are kind of flexible if you just need to change your dates. When I had to postpone a trip due to personal complications, Destination St John could not have worked harder with me to help. Basically, I didn't want my deposit money back, I just wanted to postpone the week I would use it. They were more than happy to do that for me. No penalty. I am eternally grateful to them for doing so.

Yeah - the sixty days out is what I usually thought too. But, seeing as how its May that we're going - I am not really that concerned about it because we've booked it short notice.

Thanks for your thoughts.

This sounds like the one we just agreed to when we went a few weeks back. FYI- we purchased travel insurance, it wasn't tha much money and the peace of mind it brought was great!
