Not sure if its the law or not, but I would guess that's a yes. I wouldn't go without one, though typically you don't exceed 20 mph I always have visions of tumbling off a cliff and would want my babes strapped down in that event. Maybe it was the brake failure in a jeep on a trip long long ago. Strangly I do forgo it on STT in the Taxi. I know not logical.

Christy's of St. John rents good condition, late model car seats. Boosters are in the $25 range, I think car seats are $50-60. Expensive but I figure its just the price of not having to drag ours through multiple airports, the taxi and ferry.

It is not a law. They must be in the back seat but they do not have to be restrained in any way. I always used a car seat or booster until my son was 6. Now he just uses the seatbelt in the back.
Also, just a reminder, you cannot talk on a cell phone while driving unless you have a hands free device.

If you rent from Courtesy car rental, they have one or two but reserve it with the vehicle to make sure it's reserved.I know you need seatbelts for front seat passengers.

We are staying at the Westin and are renting from O'Connor. According to them, the hotel has car seats that they provide.
