One more desperate question concerning late arrivals

Post by cypressgirl »

I may be looking for trouble, but here goes. If our late flight (9:00) from Miami is too late to make the last ferry, should I go ahead and book a hotel room on STT now? I realize that is plenty of time to make an 11:00 ferry, but if the flight is delayed an hour or so we won't make it. I'm afraid with all the spring break vacationers we will not be able to find a hotel that night. What would you do, and can you recommend a budget hotel that would be in a safe area?
I hate to book a hotel that I most likey will not need, and not be able to cancel at the last minute.

I sound really paranoid. I must need a vacation!!

I don't have an answer for you - but, you "crack me up".

You sound just like me!! Over worry, over analyze & "must have a plan for disaster".

Trust me - you are just doing your best to cover all your bases.

Isn't planning a trip fun??!!??

We are running away for 4 nights to Tortola starting Wed., Feb 28th & I am convinced that we will have a snow storm & not be able to fly out! (Are we related??!!??)

look at the best western emerald beach right near the airport. my philosophy is as look as you can cancel book it for now and at least you have something! Should have took my own advice when looking at car rentals for Key West :(

I'm afraid I will have to pay for the room even if we don't need it, if I have to cancel at the last minute. That is 269. PLUS tax. OUCH!! I guess I don't have a choice.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only over zealous planner out there. I hate to be negative, I've just learned to expect the best and plan for the worst.

Have you checked the Holiday Inn Charlotte Amalie? It's a short taxi from the airport, a decent place to stay, and is right across the street from the harbor/ferry to STJ. Don't know what the availability is for your night, but it's worth checking.

The last ferry from STT to STJ (Red Hook to Cruz Bay) is at midnight so I would think you will have no problem :)

That makes me feel SO much better. I should have checked the ferry schedule. I don't know why I thought it was 11:00. Thanks, Pia!

Besides, if I am not mistaken, AA will gather you all together and get you to St John by private ferry if it is their fault that the plane is late. That's the part that has to be determined.
I have spent many a night at the airport picking up guests later that the arrival time, bcause they most always delay that flight.
Only time I saw a problem for the St. John travelers is when the Coast Guard shut down the ports because it was too windy. One guy was having a time of it screaming at the airline and they had nothing to do with the ferries not running!
