I've always loved Hawksnest and Maho...never been to Francis but you can bet that will be on the next trip! Sounds wonderful.

Maho Bay??

Post by SuefromMA »

Question for you Maho Bay lovers:

Is the one that you love the Maho Bay that is right there on the side of the road?? Or is it the one that you access through Maho Bay Campground (around the corner from Francis?)

We haven't stopped or been to either.

Fell in love with Francis on our last trip. Need to venture onto new beaches when we return in April.

Maho Bay is next to the road. Little Maho Bay is between Francis and Maho Bay. I like to swim over to Little Maho Bay from Francis Bay. There's private little beach in the rocks along the way. Bring $$ for beers at the Maho Bay Campground beach shack. They have sandwiches too.

Have always enjoyed Maho Bay...used to park right between the trees. I read where we can't do that anymore as the Park Service is ticketing. Anyone been there lately to verify this? The article I read recommended taking a bus out there and not your car, but I love having my jeep available.

I saw a picture in the Tradewinds, I think, of the cars that were being ticketed. From what I could tell, it was not the cars on the beach side, but cars on the other side of the road that were ticketed. I could kind of see the rangers point--the cars were partly out in the road, blocking two-way traffic.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thank y'all for the info. I think I'm gonna try it. Love that beach and I really don't want to take the bus. I think I remember seeing cars parked across from the beach side before, too. Most of the places beach side look like cars park there, so you wouldn't be hurting a lot of the landscape...

It depends what I am looking to do. Snorkle, drink or just do nothing at all. I like cinnamon for peace of mind.

So hard to choose.

Trunk will always be my favorite - probably because it was the first.

But we loved Maho this year. Cinnamon is also a favorite, but for some reason the rain always finds us there.

I was there 2 weeks ago, and parked on both the beach/tree side almost every day and never saw anyone getting ticketed. I must have been lucky and picked the right time of day.. Wonder how much the fine is?

Hawksnest and Maho are a tie for me. The only time I was attacked by noseeums was at francis and I never got in the water there so I can't really judge it.
