Need Assistance Selecting Honeymoon Island

Post by alw1977 »

Not for me... but I'm helping my BIL plan his May honeymoon. St. John is OUT for a variety of reasons, the most important being that his fiancee must be on a beach and she doesn't want to stay at Caneel or the Westin. I think they'd love St. John, but it's not for them this trip.

Here's what they want:
1. Small, romantic hotel (her)
2. Close enough to bars/town in case they get bored and want to see other ppl (him)
3. On the beach (MUST)
4. An island with activities, but not overly crowded

So far, I've come up with Ti Kaye in St. Lucia (http://tikaye.com/) (too far away from town for him). The problem is finding nice SMALL hotels that aren't going to break the bank. They have a budget of around $4000, including air. Any ideas?

Oh, and they're going Monday-Monday, so flying to an island like Grenada (where flights are only on certain days) just won't work.

My first thought was Turks and Caicos and somewhere on Grace Bay in Provo. The beach is gorgeous and the island is small, so it won't be that far from "town" (even if Provo doesn't have a real town). I would say it's a great Honeymoon destination.

Not sure where to stay, but I am sure there are suiatable places. Even smaller resorts. And many of them are on the beach.

I agree with Maggy on the TCI recommendation.

Where is your BIL located? Provo is easy to get to from the east coast. USAir services the island directly from Charlotte.

We ate lunch a small hotel called Siboney (or something like that) and it was lovely. We looked at in again for our June trip and it was reasonable.

There are so many beach front options on the island. Most of the condo places have at least one restaurant and bar on site.

In June, we stayed in an area where we could walk to a few restaurants.

A rental car would be a must.

Old, quaint hotel on the beach? My first thought was Key West, although perhaps that's not tropical and exotic enough.

(Actually, my first thought was Cuba, but that's illegal. Unless they happen to be Canadian.)
