1 Couple can't go... What happens next?

Post by Ryn »

We have three couples going to STJ in April. We have made our initial payment, now are getting ready to make the final payment soon. One of the three couples states that things are very bad for them financially and they may not be able to pay this final deposit or possibly go at all.

Can this be refunded to them and then the cost of the villa be priced out at the 2 couple rate? As one of the remaining couples, I really hope that we don't have to eat the remaing cost.

Anyone with experience with this situation that can help....

Generally, I believe you are responsible for the original number of bedrooms booked. That being said, it certainly can't hurt to talk to the agency that you used and explain the situation to them. If you are not able to get the reduced price, perhaps you can find another couple to jump in.

The sort of happen to us back in 2005. We were going to take my mother-in-law and had the villa reserved for the 3-4 people price. Then she decided that she didn’t want to go. I gave Caribbean Villas & Resorts a call and they gave us the cheaper price. Give the villa agent a call and explain the situation. Good Luck.

Definitely call your villa agent. Give them a chance to help you out.

The same thing happened to us a few years ago. Like FlaGeorge, we had booked through Caribbean Villas and there was no problem. We still had the final payment to make, so they reduced that so that the total payment equaled the lesser rate.

We were told that most of the higher rate for additional people is due to the cost of water. Since you have less people you'll be using less water and they should drop your rate. You might even be able to switch villa if you need to get something a little less expensive for two couples.
