Just went to Portsmouth on Saturday for the first time. It is such a great place to visit. It is on the water, TONS of great restaurants and shops. We ate at the Portsmouth Gas Light Company--Downstairs serves awesome brick oven pizza. The also served a rum punch which they called Better than Prozac Punch!!Lol!! We were only there for a few hours during the day but it looks like it would be a lively place at night. It is about an hour from Boston. Definitely worth the trip for anybody in the area.

I love Portsmouth! Whenever there, we stop at the Portsmouth Brewery for a beer and appetizerS. Maybe we'll take a drive this weekend - thanks for the idea :)

I agree, when we feel like breaking up our 10 hour drive to Maine each summer we stop in Portsmouth on the way back for an overnight.

Portsmouth is a really great destination and a good starting out point to travel around New England too.

The dining options range from bar&grill food at affordable prices to high end gourmet for foodies.

The shopping also ranges from trinkets to locally made art (there's a very strong arts community there) to custom made clothes and accessories.

Then there's the Portsmouth Music Theatre for movies and concerts.

Then there's the harbor for harbor cruises. I looooved the Ilse of Shoals cruise!!!

And parking? It's up to 0.75 cents an hour at the municipal garage. Ya- no kidding.

Once you park, everyhting is within walking distance.

I'm from the area and get up to Portsmouth several times a year. I highly recc. Portsmouth to anyone visiting the area.
