Roundabout Construction Schedule?

Post by Diana2 »

We will be in STJ in June and was wondering if the roundabout where the Texaco station is will be under construction by that time. I'm hoping that we will avoid that as I'm sure that's going to be a HUGE PAIN to deal with. Knowing how slow island time runs this project will probably be pushed into 2008. Does anyone have an educated guess??

In the news of STJ written by F. Barnako there is an article about the roundabout. Basically they say that the planning regarding the construction is 90% complete and that construction might start this summer. He ends by saying that it could be a nightmare.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that construction doesn't begin until July 1 or later (we leave on June 30th). I can't even begin to imagine what a nightmare that's going to be!!

My gut feeling is that it would probably start after 4th of July since the carnival parade would be in some big trouble since it basically ends at that point.

Roundabout 'nightmare'

Post by fbarnako »

The 'nightmare' would happen if they close the intersection.

As it is now, Centerline breaks off to go to the south shore, or up the hill and down the back of crest of the island. You also have traffic from the old barge port coming up past Boulon.

If they close the intersection, all the south shore traffic is either going to go through the Enighed Pond roads (would they possible think we should drive from toewn along the road past Gallows and then out to south shore?) ...

I have to think they'll do it by flag people, making an access lane one way, alternately.

You don't want to be downtown at 4pm ... I can tell you that.

Thanks, Frank for your input. I thought too that they would probably begin in July after Carnival. Traffic is a mess at it is and with this added it will indeed be a nightmare!!

I just finished reading Frank's "News from St John" and was sitting here thinking what a mess this will be. That intersection is so busy, and so confusing, especially when you approach it for the first time driving on the left side of the road! Will be interesting to see how this progresses.
