Tracy and Juice's Trip Report - part 2

Post by Tracy in WI »

**Since I can't get the pictures any larger, click on them and you will be taken to the webshots site for the entire album**

We awoke to a perfect Sunday morning on St. John. Juice was up early to run and I lounged back at home enjoying the peace and quiet.

Juice is a big runner and has competed in the 8 Tuff Miles in 2005 (he took 3rd in his age group!). He is also preparing for his third Boston Marathon in April. So, each day he would wake up before me and go for a run. Several mornings I would hear some random dogs barking but think nothing of it. Actually, as he would run past one particular house, two cute little (vicious) dogs would come out to bark at him. One day, as I was relaxing by the pool, I heard more barking than usual but smiled to myself knowing that he was almost home. Actually, on this day, these two cute little (vicious) dogs started chasing him and biting at his heels – he had to sprint back and was pretty much out of breath when he returned!

After his run on Sunday, we headed over to Miss Lucy’s for Sunday Brunch. We have made this a tradition and head there each trip. They were quite busy on this morning and no tables were available outside. We ended up sitting inside but still had a great view of the water and the jazz duo that entertained us. We always order the same thing each time so once again, I ordered eggs benedict and Juice ordered pain perdu – which is French toast stuffed with cream cheese. Both our meals were excellent and we were now ready for some snorkeling.

We cleaned our plates!

We decided to start off by heading to Haulover North since we have had great success with snorkeling here in the past. We made our way through the trail and out to the rocky beach. Unfortunately, the waves were pretty rough and we decided not to snorkel. Instead we plopped down in our chairs and took in the view for about an hour. There are some awesome views from this part of the island.

We headed back out and I took a peek at Haulover South – quite a difference as this beach was as calm as a pool.

We decided to go to Francis Bay for a few hours before the Beach Bar gathering. Instead of snorkeling, I just played in the water and took in the view. Being a Sunday, the beach was more crowded than usual but Francis definitely remains our favorite beach.

We left the Beach about 3:30 to get ready for the forum gathering and were eager to meet everyone. We headed to the Beach Bar and it was pretty crowded. Since I wasn’t sure who I was looking for we stood on the beach for a bit. We then spotted Ruth near the bar and went to introduce ourselves. I presented her with the cheesehead – which fit nicely as a corsage around her wrist! (This used to belong to my dog, George and he was more than willing to get rid of it!) She kindly went searching the crowd for Tom and anyone else who might be there from the forum. She is pretty recognizable! Here are some pictures from that evening. (We need some shirts or hats to make these meetings easier!)

After the Jazz Jam ended, we joined two ladies from the Wausau, Wisconsin area that we just met and headed for dinner at Woody’s.

Hi Tom - I mistakenly put them in the wrong album. I'll try to change that and see if it works. You'll get some good shots of a trip to Kalahair Resort in the Wisconsin Dells along with St. John if I can do it! Ooops! It must be a Monday morning....

Nice photos! It's great to see what everyone looks like. Did you snorkel at Haulover South? We've seen some neat stuff there, especially on the right side--not as good at North, but still interesting.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Great report so far, love the pictures. I forgot to mention that I went to Woody's the first night for a bite before heading over Red Hook to meet our friends. Your picture reminded me that I had the biggest onion ring I have ever seen with my burger at Woody's. I sent you some info about SSR in a pm with some questions.

Pain Perdu

Post by SuefromMA »

Tracy,

Why couldn't you take a picture of the Pain Perdu BEFORE you ate it??

Can't wait til we return in April to have it again!

My poor husband ordered the crab cakes & took just one bite of my Pain Perdu (which was all I would give up) - and his eyes rolled back in his head. It was delicious! Along with a mimosa & water view - it doesn't get any better!!

I actually guess that the empty plate was a little less painful than seeing that yummy French Toast!

Love your report & photos!

All these reports of Miss Lucy's brunch are making me hungry.

Definitely need to get that onto the to-do list for next trip.
