Trip Report Jan 17-24 - Part 2

Post by Cindy in pa »

Next day we went to Donkey Diner for breakfast, excellant as always. We then hiked the Brown Bay trail with our snorkel gear. It took 30 min. each way to go up and down the mountain. Not a bad hike at all. Snorkeling was great to the left. The sun was shining and the further out you went the coral and fish got bigger. We then decided to go to Maho bay for the afternoon with a stop at the smoothie stand. Not much sand to lay on but we managed and had no problem parking along the road. For dinner we went to Pastory gardens and had a great dinner and played mini golf.

Saturday there werent many cruise ships scheduled for St Thomas so we went to Trunk Bay. Never saw waves that big on St John before. The snorkling was no good because of the visibility plus the waves were pushing everything back and forth. They made a great rum punch though! We went over to Cinnamon next. The waves were just as bad but we were able to lay in sun and get a good tan. The waves were great for body surfing. We went to Sweet Plantains for dinner. Delicious and filling. Drove over to Cruz Bay for evening entertainment. I think I can drive Centerline Rd blindfolded!

Sunday was Miss Lucys Brunch of course. First we took the 2 person kayak out for a workout. We worked up an appetite for brunch and got there as they opened, Delicious. After brunch we went to Salt Pond. First we hiked to Drunk Bay, then snorkeled a while then hiked Rams Head. Another great workout - have to work off the Pain Killers. We decided to stay in Coral Bay that night after all the exercise and headed to Island Blues for dinner and the football game. Finally went to bed by 10 pm for a change.

Monday was the day to head to Waterlemon. We followed a bunch of asses down the trail(you know, donkeys) Had the beach to ourselves for an hour. Finally snorkeled and saw turtles, rays, conchs and on the way out to the island I spotted an Octopus outside his house. Snorkeling around the island was fantastic as always. Went to Cruz Bay for lunch and wanted to see if Kenny was working at Quiet Mon. He was and we drank our lunch. Got a snack and drink to go and headed to Hawksnest. There was no sand to sit on without getting wet. We didnt go in the water there. Went back to Pastory for dinner and golf. Then went to town for night circuit - Beach Bar, Larry's, Quiet Mon and The Front Yard. Back in Coral bay at 3:30!

Tuesday was our last full day. We went to Jumbie Beach and pretty much took a nap. Headed to The Balcony for lunch, very good and large sandwiches. Went back to Francis and stayed till bugs chased us away. Went back to Cruz Bay for our last night and did the circuit and the last late night drive across the island.

Wednesday we had to leave our cottage by 10. We went to The Inn at Tamarind Court for breakfast, also very good. Then did all the shopping to take home. One last visit to Happy Fish to have a drink with one of my bartender friends. Went to the ferry and again got on just as it was leaving. Hit the store on St Thomas for many liters of booze which we wrapped in dirty clothes and stuffed in suitcases. (they made it)
Returned the car and got through customs just as plane was loading. The gate lady even let us by a pain killer at the bar and take it on the plane! (only on St Thomas)

So it was another lovely trip to the islands and I will be headed back in July for Juvee.

Thanks for the report! I liked hearing about your activities in the Coral Bay area. We have never stayed on that side of the island but more and more, I think we might like the hiking available close by.

Sounds like a great trip!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I've enjoyed your reports, thanks for some good info. I would LOVE to follow those donkeys down the trail, how cool!
