nautilus villa maria bluff

Post by papabou »

looking at a trip for later this fall and in addition to the usual suspects, i ran across nautilus on maria bluff through private homes. see at http://privatehomesvi.com/

she has the things we like with western view and bedroom ac but rate seems a little low for area and competition. i like value but don't want any surprises. only review i could find was dec 04.

anyone know anything about her or had experience with rental agency? any help will be appreciated.

You can't go wrong with private homes. They are wonderful people.. Ask for more pictures. We have stayed at Sago Palms and it is not new but had everything we wanted. Very claean and well taken care of.

Papa..I have never stayed there but drove by it daily when we stayed at Beyond the Sea , just up the hill... that area of Maria Bluff is quite high up on the cliff and Nautilus is right on the water.... You'll fall in love with the view!!!..not to mention the sound of the water breaking down below.. we loved that part of the Island, I don't think you'll be disappointed..It is certainly not as low as it appears..Let us know what you decide... I'd love to hear a TR about it!
I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks than in the drink with a boat on the rocks

Nautilus' western view may not be the spectacular across the water view of houses on the water side further west on Maria Bluff. The view is actually across the large Nautilus property and down the road, so you get STT but not that expanse of Pillsbury Sound in between. The totality of the view is still spectacular as the property juts out well in front of Sea Stone and Beyond the Sea giving unobstructed NE views all the way to perfect French Cap and STX views.

Loaded with iguanas, the site has a few graves, Boulons, I think, right on the edge of the cliffs.

No pool, but old fashioned plastic hot tub. Views from inside the house are not great. Big porches on east, not a great view except of Sea Stone's pool, and west, good sunsets albeit mostly over land, not water. The property is quite diverse and interesting to explore.

Villa is not very islandy and surprisingly does not have great views from inside. Nonetheless a very nice location and a good value.

We looked at Nautilius, but went with Tesseract instead, which is also with Private Homes.

I absolutely love working with Mary-Eileen and I would recommend her to anyone. She is a lovely lady, and we are very impressed by the level of service they provide.

Their houses aren't the fanciest, but I don't need four-star accommodations. I just need a place to lay my head and plug in a blender, and I am OK.

I don't have anything to offer about the villa, but I'm real happy to see you're planning a STJ trip. I remember a previous post when you were having second thoughts. Hope it works out and you have a nice trip.

Our family stayed at Nautilus in July of 2007 and really enjoyed it. The view, however, is oriented more east and south. Nautilus sits on a cliff and the view and sound of the waves crashing against the rocks below was a highlight. Breezes there are terrific. St. Thomas and sunsets can be seen from a side deck where there is a table and chairs but this spot is not nearly as enjoyable as the side of the house with the eastern views. Landscaping has helped block the views of Sea Stone but Beyond the Sea is still has a direct view of Nautilus' decks. Our kids loved the iguanas that came up to beg every afternoon. The hottub appeared to be clean and well maintained as was the entire house. We hope to stay there again.

thanks to all for the info on nautilus. she stays on the prospect list.

pjayer, when i posted my concerns about the recent crime, i was working on a trip soley with the bride to celebrate her 65th birthday in sept. we went to club med cancun instead and while she/we enjoyed trip, it did not satisfy my stj craving. thus bride's consented for me to make another guy trip, god i love that woman. perhaps my being on island to do a little personal recon and investigatory work will allow me to give an all clear for her return in near future too (of course with me)!

peace

Papabou, Nautilus can be all yours for just under two million:

papapou, you have a very nice bride. I completely understand how Club Med wouldn't fit the bill after experiencing STJ. Enjoy your trip. 8)

We just got back yesterday from a week at Nautilus! This was our second stay at this villa and we really love it. The house really lacks for nothing and the kitchen has everything you'll need.

We were hardly in the house at all, spending most of our time on the veranda. The breezes are wonderful and the view, for us, does not get tiring.

We last stayed in 2004, and you could see most of Sea Stone next door. Now the shrubs have grown quite a bit and you can only see the very edge of their part of the cliff. There is another villa next to Sea Stone that has a full time resident now, but she wasn't home very much. I think she owns a shop in Mongoose.

If you'd like some pics of the views from the veranda, or any other info, feel free to PM me.

We did notice it's for sale, but it's a wee bit out of our price range.

Beyond the sea! I couldn't think of the name of this villa! Yes, it has a direct view of Nautilus, but it has a full time resident now, who works (or owns a shop) in Mongoose. We only saw her (and maybe a him?) for an hour or so every evening when she sat on the deck. Oh, and her dogs barked a few times, but nothing obnoxious.
