I went to a football game tonight in white capris. It was 82 degrees. No one said a thing.

This no white capris/shorts thing, does that apply to foreign girls? Just want to know what to pack.

You learn something new every day. Can't imagine what I'm going to learn on SOTB! TG my husband thinks I am going on a dedicated dive trip (and that he doesn't read the forum).

I guess this whole issue was drummed into me since I was a little girl.

Thanks all...won't put the whites away yet.

California Girl wrote:I always find it amusing when you people east of the Mississippi talk about not wearing white after Labor Day. I guess even some people west of the Mississippi follow the same rules. I've always heard about "people like you", but here in California it's just never been that way. We wear white whenever we feel like it. I just wore my white jeans, sandals and a red tank top today... and went out in public!
Don't know about you, but this guy and his girl are still wearing shorts. Not white for me since it would show up all the ketchup and bbq sauce stains. Has nothing to do with seasons.

Damn fine day out today.

Connie,

I (like you) was raised where you would not dare wear white after labor day. Winter white was acceptable but never white. It's funny because even though I know that it perfectly fine in this day and age, I still don't do it. I guess MrsB is right, we're afraid we'll never be found in a snow storm

I don't wear white here in Wisconsin after Labor Day (shoes included) because I grew up with the same rules as the others. However, once you are farther south than say Georgia, you can wear whatever you want, whenever you want, 'cause it's summer there all the time. :)

Sure is nice chatting about stuff that's not political dontcha think?

I never wear white after Labor Day, even in the islands, except on Election Day

Really, I am from CT and was told to never wear it after Labor Day or before Memorial Day.

I wonder who came up with that silly rule? How about seersucker? Is that taboo after Labor Day, too? And white eyelet?

I think that seersucker is supposedly taboo after Labor Day. I'm not sure on the eyelet.

Seersucker looks kind of goofy though--especially seersucker pants. I think those should always be "out!"

No seersucker after labor day and eyelet is fine as long as it is not white.

....and in my book, the only shoes that should be white are flip flops and sneakers.

Does that rule apply to before or after Labor Day? Or just all the time? Really, this is all new stuff to me!

I'm a Southern girl, and my mother taught me that rule about wearing white after Labor Day. I still don't do it. But then, I'm naturally fair skinned and don't look good in white anyway. I don't like white shoes, either. (except tennis shoes) It's just one of my quirks.
