Palin...are you freakin' kidding?!
So, we called a truce and watched the VP debate last night as it was my 6th Grade daughter's homework assignment. We had a lifelong Republican, a Blue Dog Democrat, an 11 year old who "Likes Obama," and a 16 year old who is trying to figure things out. In the past, political conversations have gone poorly in our house, so we generally avoid them.
During the debate, we were pretty much in perfect agreement. Those candidates were so heavily scripted it was like they barely listened to the moderator. Having Tivo, we did some rewinds to review the exchange and it was painful how poorly they responded to the questions. Why bother having a moderator ask questions?
Biden tended to blather a bit when he got off his debating bullets, but understands the subject matter like a DC legislative operator.
Palin had two completely different personas: when she was talking about something she knew she stood up straighter, opened her eyes wider and grinned; on the issues where she was working off of memorized bullets she lost affect and her eyes lost focus and she looked like she was visualizing a power point slide written by someone else.
However things work out, we hope the VPs get their acts together better. Biden needs to think before he speaks. Palin has an awful lot to learn. Neither of these people are our family's choice for VP.
Cheers, RickG

I think both did very well but Palin not only exceeded expectations but held her own with a man who has been in the senate for 30+ years.
Any woman, regardless of political affilaition, who was not excited to see Palin's performance last night has liberal media blinders on. Hello- she mgiht be the firstr female VP! Glass ceiling? Hello?!!!
I hear so many people talk about Palin's inexperience being scary because she MIGHT become president IF John passed.
What about Obama's inexperience AS the president? What about Joe's record of gaffes if Obama passes? How would those gaffes go over when sitting down with international leader's? Dang it- you can't point fingers at one when the finger pointer is just as guilty!

Well Mr. Pete, we've had it your way for a number of years now, and look where we are......Pete (Mr. Marcia) wrote: Indeed, she is an everyday, normal person. To me, that's not a qualification for the office she seeks.

Just what are the qualifications for that office? I know they must be written down somewhere......

Ya, look where we are after 8 years of W. That was not, as you put it, "my way." When "my way" left office, we had a budget surplus.CariBert wrote:Well Mr. Pete, we've had it your way for a number of years now, and look where we are......Pete (Mr. Marcia) wrote: Indeed, she is an everyday, normal person. Wisconsin, smell the dairy air
If we were casting for the latest pablum Disney film like, 'President HockeyMom!!' I would agree with you 100%, However, we are 'casting' for the 2nd most important job in the United States of America. Shucks and gosh golly gee's may play great on the tv and movie screen, but they are a far cry from the language of state and diplomacy.SJfromNJ wrote:I am tired of the stuffed suit spouting all the BS on what they are going to do and when elected, just do nothing years after year. Mrs Palin seem to be more in touch with Joe Six Pack and is a refreshing change/alternative to the blah blah wha whaaa whaaa stuff which usually come from Washinton. You are not going to tell me Al Gore was a fricken rocket scientist are ya?Pete (Mr. Marcia) wrote:When I envision our leaders, I envision intelligent, bright people...people who, when you look at their background and body of service, make you say to yourself, "wow."
When I see Sarah Palin I say, "man, she reminds me of the annoying mom at my kid's soccer game who won't shut up."
Indeed, she is an everyday, normal person. To me, that's not a qualification for the office she seeks.
The fact is that niether candidate impressed me last night. However, I'm not sure it was thier fault. The format of the debate, and the moderator, failed the American people. Questions went unanswerd, and the hard follow-ups were non-existant. I know no more now than I did Wedensday, exept that the word warshington, apparantly has a R in it that I never learned about in school.
Oh, and that the powers of the VP should be expanded......somehow.....i dunno how....i guess you just git down to business...as a warshington outsider...and change that ole pesky atricle 1 of the constitution...caues I guess thats how they do it in Alaska....[insert pluckish grin here]

Not removing blame from bill, nor debating the fact that he was likely getting blown at the time of the attacks, but my friend.... he certainly was not in the white house at the time. I think I can safely disregard your future posts on this topic as meaningless.DaveS007 wrote:Yea, and while YOUR man was getting hosed in the oval office a few planes plowed into us.
Great start for W, really great.
Because after you post a relevant concern or opinion about someone who is running for public office, and then follow it up with something humorous, it helps take the sting out of a post that you make that you really want to keep light and not offend other peoples political opinion......it's called humor.
