cooler carry on

Post by philbetm »

:) Hi Everbody

As we all know...food has gone way up
too! Never carried anything over with us
before, but seriously considering it on
June trip.

Have heard comments from some
about soft-side coolers filled with frozen
meats taken as carry-on bag.

DO YOU GET ANY HASSEL FROM SECURITY
CHECKPOINTS OVER THIS??

We usually fly out of Charlotte, NC., UsAir
non-stop...not this time...their rates are
HUGE...600-700 per person. Looking at going
with AA connecting in MIA. Would I have any
problem there with it either?

Thanks Ladies and Gentlemen... 8)

No problems so far.

We make certain to pack 100% solids (no gels, no frozen liquids) tightly with any empty spaced filled with crumpled newspapers or cardboard. We pre-freeze every item individually and pre-freeze the cooler (Polar Bear medium/24 pack) and then pack the cooler the night before and keep the whole thing in the freezer. Our freezer is set at -10F. The only thing that tends to defrost a bit are shrimp.

We do bring pureed packs of Goya pureed mango and papaya and one of these days we are going to get called on that. But, those are cheap and I'd throw them out if challenged.

To be honest, its just about more trouble than its worth.

Cheers, RickG
