Re: 951 days since my last visit to STJ

Thanks for sharing! Its funny you were staying at Coconuts during our first week on island. Coconuts was our first villa on St John, so it holds a special place in our hearts. We've stayed there a few other times, but it was booked for this year's trip. We were at Hummingbird Hill - down the road a ...

Lunch at Cinnamon Bay? (John Thomas)

Has anyone had lunch at Tree Lizards at Cinnamon Bay recently in addition to John Thomas? John - did you have a decent lunch there? When we've been to Cinnamon Beach during past trips, the restaurant was deserted. Around 2008 or so, it had a reputation for lousy food. Very mixed reviews on TA. Somet...

Re: Gibney parking

I'm glad this question was posted and thank you for the info T_R. I didn't know you weren't supposed to park on the right. I've heard of people being blocked in by other Jeeps, so we were concerned about parking there. We've never been there in all our trips to StJ, but maybe this trip.

Re: Planning a day trip to tortola

Thanks for sharing your adventure on Tortola. We've stayed on Tortola a few times and the first trip, we had a Suzuki, so I know how you feel. It definitely had a hard time making it up those steep hills. On one of the steep hills we had to stop for construction and were concerned about making it up...

Re: Lawnchairs and snorkel mask

Quite a few years ago, we stayed at Estate Concordia and they didn't provide beach chairs. We rented nice chairs from Crabby's in Coral Bay. On another trip, my snorkel got messed up and I bought one from Crabby's. Its been great and I still use it after many years. I took a quick look at Crabby's w...

charter trip to snorkel mangroves?

About 5 years ago, we went on Long Distance for the day and the last snorkel was in the mangroves in one of the coves in Hurricane Hole. We loved that snorkel as it was so different from any place else we had snorkeled. We would love to take a half day trip to snorkel 2 places in the mangroves. I ch...

Re: Using weather site to predict conditions at North Haulov

Thank you! This is great info. We've encountered rough conditions at North Haulover in May and June, so technically it was spring since it was before the summer solstice. I think of June as a summer month since its usually hot here. Kevin- we are enjoying your Plumeria weather station. Thanks for sh...

Using weather site to predict conditions at North Haulover

We are planning our summer trip to St John this year :D and have a question for the weather experts and sailors. We would like to snorkel North Haulover, but each time we've been there, the conditions were too rough. Is it possible to check a site like windguru or the Plumeria weather station and te...

Re: Yay! Upcoming trip and some questions

Thanks for all the great info. Glad to hear there is food at the RH ferry terminal and close by. We love pates, so we'll probably hit that place - thanks Minde! We'll have to see how much time we have - flight lands at 12:30pm - nice! We usually take the ferry, pick up the car and go to Starfish bef...

Yay! Upcoming trip and some questions

We are eagerly anticipating, talking about and planning our upcoming trip to St John. Our last trip was in 2014. A few questions: - Is there food available at the Red Hook ferry terminal? I seem to recall when we were there last time, there was a place to get drinks, but I don't remember food. Our f...

Re: Marco Island or Naples?

I thought I would post a follow-up to this. We sent my parents to the Cove Inn in Naples for 3 nights. They love boating and had to give up their boat a few years ago due to their health, so I wanted a place on the water, but not on the beach. I found the Cove Inn while poking around online and its ...

Re: Looking for car rental & ferry insight

We've always rented on StJ. We wanted in-town parking and we didn't want to have to get the Jeep back to STT if it had problems. We've rented a Jeep from Bougainvillea for all of our trips and they were great. We had an issue with the Jeep one time and we just took it back and exchanged it for anoth...

Photo Sharing sites?

There are quite a few excellent photographers on this site, so I thought I would ask my question about photo sharing to see what you recommend. We don't currently use any online website for photo storage or sharing. My BIL recommended Drop Box to share photos. Our goal is to be able to share lots of...

Re: Anyone get an item from Friends of VINP auction?

Nope - it wasn't me who was bidding on the OACD villa. I re-read your trip report from your stay and was mulling it over. I was concerned about the mosquitoes in that location - we've been eaten alive at Francis a few times in the past. Of course, you can be beset by mosquitoes in many locations if ...
