Re: Anguilla, Bonaire - other?
We've been to T&C twice (Providenciales). The snorkeling was good but not nearly as good as St. John. Mainly 2 spots for from the beach snorkeling but we did do a nice sail and had good snorkeling from the boat. One main beach and then some others a drive away that were nice. Really nothing but ...

Re: Octopus facts video
His True Facts series is the best! Love the duck one. As for octopus sightings, look for discarded shells near some rocks - Octopus love mollusks and will discard the shells outside their dwellings. Also, early morning or later afternoon/evening are better times to spot octopus. We had really good l...

Re: Saint John info
When you say 3 days on St. John, do you mean 3 nights or do you mean 3 full days to explore and enjoy the beaches. Also, where are you staying? Your answers will make a big difference regarding beaches to visit, whether you need a car, and what hikes to do. Most beaches will be a car/taxi ride away ...

Re: Advice on first trip to St. John
Trunk - I think most people avoid it due to crowds. It is a beautiful beach but we didn't find the snorkeling to be up to the other spots. It is good, just not as good as other places, especially if it is crowded with cruise ship passengers. If you go, go early and pick a day when there are no cruis...

It is about the ugliest structure I have ever seen and looks so out of place. Ugh.

Re: Boat in Maho
Since we know the name of the boat/company, why doesn't someone have a talk with the owner or the National Park Service to straighten them out on the rules and regulations. Now that I know the name, I will certainly never use them or recommend that anyone use them. What the captain did was reckless ...

Re: Advice on first trip to St. John
Since you said shallow snorkeling, I would go with Maho (to the right and in the middle for turtles and possibly rays), Francis (both sides but we like the right side as a bit quieter), and Salt Pond with a walk to Drunk Bay. For in town snorkeling, Frank Bay isn't bad and right in front of Gallows ...

Re: should i rent a jeep for everyday in st. john
Do you have 4 full days on island or does your 4 days include your arrival day and departure day? If the latter, you really only have 2 days for snorkeling and hiking so I don't think you have to have a rental car. Just plan to use taxis or hike to get to some of the beaches nearer to Cruz Bay. Sinc...

Re: Odd Question: Sharps disposal on St John?
Deejayjay - Not all communities allow sharps to be disposed of in the trash, no matter the container they are in - they are considered hazardous waste. We don't allow it where we live but we can take them to our local fire departments for proper disposal.

Re: should i rent a jeep for everyday in st. john
Agree with others on renting the car. Couple of notes, we prefer to have ours the first day so we can do a grocery/drinks run. We like to return it at the end of the day (if staying walking distance to the ferry or someplace with a shuttle) the day before we leave so we don't have mess with it the m...

Re: Parrot fish
Bill, you are correct. Large parrot fish can produce as much as 1,000 pounds per year! And, they keep the algae off the coral so the coral has more space to grow. I'll happily walk on parrot fish poop any day of the week!

Re: The old Zozos....
We had dinner there twice on our week visit in February this year. We thought the food was excellent and our service was quite good. I am a vegetarian and have food allergies and the chef was very happy to make me special meals each night - I just reserved in advance and let them know. My husband at...
