Re: Thief at Solomon Bay

One snorkeler claimed that he stood in the water at Little Lamshure and watched a mongoose open the zipper on his small cooler and take his sandwich. JIM I hear they are crafty. Our bag of chips were actually inside of another bag. When our son was 4yo, we were at Caneel and spent a fun hal...

Re: a greeting from Denmark

Hello Linne! What an unexpected pleasure to see you name pop up. Glad to hear you and your family is well and enjoying different adventures. I referenced your posts about the house in Spain and the beach house many times for design and construction inspiration when we renovated a vacation cottage. T...

Re: St. John like destination

I agree with everything said about T&C and Anguilla. To add - Both lack a town like Cruz Bay where you can stroll about. We missed that feature. Anguilla has fantastic restaurants, many on or very close to the beach lodging options, beautiful beaches but not much snorkeling. Aside from Provo, th...

Re: Peter Bay Next month, suggestions

We stayed in Peter Bay a couple of years ago with newbies. We just love the North Shore location and the easy access to town and the beaches. We go out every night so quick access to town is a plus for us. Our newbies enjoyed strolling around town in the evening, before and after dinner (the wife is...

Re: 2 hours in Charlotte Amalie

Both of my recommendations were already covered - Gladys Café - lovely little place, interesting architecture inside and the little passage way area. I am NOT a shopper but do enjoy walking around that area just imagining life during that era. We eat there at least 5x over the past 7 years and it wa...

Re: Another Island ?

Virgin Gorda compares very favorably to STJ with many lodging options that allow for a short walk to the beach. Driving on VG is very easy and beach parking is no problem. In October, you will probably have the place to yourself. Anguilla is wonderful. You will be spoiled by the beachfront or just o...

Re: What was your first impression of St. John?

My experience was similar to David's - Me - early 20s, hubby - late 20s, honeymoon at Caneel. This was before people did their research on line. In fact, I called and requested a brochure (!) from Rock Resorts (at the time) and we made our decision based on that. While we both had a lot to travel un...

Re: Excursion with kids

We did private charters to the BVIs. The only one we used that is still operating is Palm Tree Charters. Our son did great. We have taken him on boats (motor and sail) since he was a baby and I knew he would be interested in what was going on. Each trip we did a leisurely sit-down lunch stop so he c...

Re: Excursion with kids

We started taking our son on BVI excursions when he was 4 yo. My son is/was a pirate person so we gave the early trips a pirate theme, taking pirate gear/outfits for him and played it up. Places we visited on day trips (via private charter) and my thoughts on each - 3 Ball Reef (close to Waterlemon)...

Re: Taxi service from Airport to Red Hook...Live and Learn

Was this your first visit to STJ? Private transfer vs. regular taxi van is a polarizing topic. One will pay more for a PRIVATE taxi that operates on your schedule, which is what you booked. You pay extra for the service, non-stop to the dock, a stop grocery stop, etc depending on your needs. This is...

Re: Finally Sailing the BVI's with some ???

That sounds like an interesting and fun trip. Great planning to have the villa stay on the back end. My grandparents kept a sail boat for years and my step-brother and SIL are getting ready to become full-time sailors in the BVIs. Several times we came very close to booking a crewed charter but coul...

Re: Best options staying 1 night on STT in-bound to STJ?

We stayed at the Green Iguana once for two nights. Very nice hosts. I remember a small selection of beers and wine for purchase. Charming in an old-school motel sort of way, very clean and icy AC (we were there in July). However, the managers were VERY adamant that we not walk after dark. I question...

Re: VRBO #296551-- Rendezvous Villa Review

It soon became clear to us that these were not ‘new’ conditions- they had clearly existed for some time, despite the owner claiming he knew nothing about them. The owner faulted the villa management for not resolving all problems. I spoke to the villa management company after arriving home. They to...

Re: Necker Island Tour?

We did the tour in mid February of this year. We did tour the house so that restriction must have been lifted or maybe we were allowed in because our group was so small (4 adults + 1 child). The house was interesting to see and the staff served us juices and let us look around the main area. My son ...
