Re: Arrival rituals

I'm starting a new ritual in 2 weeks. We will embark on the Red Hook Ferry, standing proudly at the bow, Titanic style. Upon our arrival at Cruz Bay, I will jump on to the dock, run over to the sand and roll in it like my dog does when she finds something smelly in the yard. Pure bliss! No, I am not...

Re: 10 more days..now what?

Pack snacks in your carryon! I felt so bad for those poor travelers stuck on the Tarmac in Dallas for 9 hours!
Also, I like to put on a little sunless tanning lotion to help get in the mood! Since I coat myself in SPF 50+, it's the only tan I am going to get.
15 days for us! Woohoo!

Re: I have a size problem

We have rented a Durango for 6 large people. You could fit 7 people in one but it doesn't leave much room in the back for suitcases or coolers/snorkel gear. Does the 23yo have auto insurance or credit card with rental car coverage? There has to be some company that will rent to a younger driver but ...

Re: CA or RH Ferry?

We took the 11:15 ferry to CA twice last year ( March and July ) and got the small orange ferry both times. Not a fan. Is it always the same? Last time we took it before this was in 2009 and it was a big ferry.

Re: Flight Cost Anxiety Woes

PHL is always the most expensive. I'm looking for mid July and prices were $750-1000. EWR has mid $400's. Most were 1 stop each way which is normal in low season. I don't get it. Who is paying these prices?

Re: Recommended beach read....

I liked this book too! The movie was good but not nearly as good as the book. Too much left out.
A light beach read was the Neil Patrick Harris Choose Your Own Autobiography. Fun!

I think I would rather hear music than the loud tipsy conversation we had next to us last Spring at Francis Bay!

I don't know why there would be any more trash than what people have now with takeout brought from Sam and Jacks or Deli Grotto. And the switchbacks would be my husband's problem since he would be driving!

Re: waxing on and on

My husband and I have said many times we would love to have a food truck in STJ, stopping at Hawksnest, Maho and Francis. Actually, styling villas that are for sale for their listing photos and when potential buyers come to see them is really needed. No lie, one villa we saw had a kitchen clock that...

Re: Say it Ain't So!

The weeks before and after Carnival will be crowded but if you head out fairly early in the morning, you should be fine. Late July was definitely less crowded than Carnival week.

Re: Fifty and falling apart! Hiking info needed.

Thanks! Ram Head is my favorite hike but we plan to leave her on the beach watching our stuff. It's too far and remote if she has any problems and I'm not carrying her! I did think about Leinster as the kind of walk she could do. I'll check FF&4WD when we get down there and I'm pretty sure I hav...
