Yes that's it! I knew I had seen it before. Liamsaunt, you won first place in the nature category! Congratulations! It's a wonderful photograph.

It appears twice in the magazine, once on page 66 and then on 69 with your name and hometown. Great job!

Caribbean Life photo winner?

While dreaming my way through the latest issue of Caribbean Travel & Life, I came upon a photo in the photo contest that looked familiar. The winning photograph of the nature category on page 69 is of an octopus. Stunning, but I think it was posted here first? Am I right? Do we have a winner on ...

We have had the pleasure of spending time with Mr. Benjamin over the past several years, both in St. John and in NYC, when he used to spend time here. I've never met anyone quite like him -- he is truly a Renaissance man and has the soul of the island. I just reread Me and My Beloved Virgin . It is ...

What about LaMer? It's high above Coral Bay and lists with destinationstjohn.com.
We've never stayed there, but I always thought it looked splendid. Plenty of room to spread out and staggering views.

Good luck in your search. Sounds fun.

Since your original question was about "It's About Time," I'll chime in. We haven't stayed there, but we got a tour when it was under construction. We were driving around Ajax, since we like the location but had never stayed there. The owner/builder was working on the house, and he invited...

This trip sounds wonderful! Last summer we went from St. John to Culebra and really enjoyed the contrast and movement from island to island.

Where did you stay in El Yunque? I'd love to hear more about it when you have a chance.

Enjoy! And thanks!

Lulu-Yes, we've stayed at Satinwood (and with a teenage daughter!) twice and will stay there again. The following is detailed, so stop reading if you're not interested in composting toilets. The two upstairs toilets are composting and ingenious. They are designed in a way that is completely clean an...

Check out Satinwood at www.satinwood-usvi.com. It's a very comfortable house with tremendous views and breezes. It would also give your group plenty of space to expand. There are two master bedrooms and each has a loft above with twin beds. There is also a downstairs apartment with a small kitchen. ...

We've always gone in late July and August and never used air conditioning. This was a big concern on our first trip, but now we know what to expect. We always stay on the Coral Bay side of the island and high up. The breezes and ceiling fans worked for us. Of course, the houses where we stayed did n...

We went to Culebra last summer and liked it a lot. Different feel because it is Spanish, but it is also laid back. There are good snorkeling beaches -- we saw some of the most magnificent coral "off the beach." We would generally snorkel in the morning at one beach, go home and have lunch,...

You're right -- there is never a dull moment with kids. Hope you can get to see a doctor. I had the same affliction on a vacation years ago. I tried the cranberry route to get me through the vacation and ended up in the hospital with a kidney infection when I got home. I think there is a family prac...

We really liked Seabreeze. I wrote the following in response to someone else... We stayed at Seabreeze a few years ago. My daughter (then about 13) walked into the living room, looked out at the view, and said, "This is opening whole new worlds to me." The view is amazing. Stargazing stagg...

You probably already thought of this, but call your villa rep and have them arrange to have the car picked up late. This happened to us -- keys were left, returned the next day to fill in the paperwork.

Try to relax and enjoy the ride -- you're already on vacation! Remember, island time...

John, Yes, Seabreeze has a loft with twin beds in it. The ladder goes straight up, and as I recall the ceiling is a bit low, but it was really cozy. My daughter loved it. The Windspree website does mention it, but there are no pictures of the loft. You might ask them about it, since we were there a ...
