Re: Trip report...of sorts

I believe this "1 beach" trip report falls under the "to each his own" category. You shouldn't have to worry about explaining your vacation and duck for fear of criticism. Sounds like you had a great time with your family and made wonderful memories. Nothing beats that! We almost...

Re: Sending a package ahead of time?

Flat rate boxes from USPS are definitely the way to go.

You used to have to buy extra tracking, but now it's included with flat rate priority mail and should be on your receipt. Just make sure you save the receipt/tracking number in a secure place so you can check on it's status.

Re: how to get from STT to SJU?

Is it possible for them to get to Tortola and then fly to SJU? It looks like Cape Air has flights available, but they are quite expensive.

Re: Advice for a Road Trip NY to FL

Just got back from our trip. Started on Long Island at 6:45 am and got to South Carolina by evening. Stayed overnight and finished the last 650 miles yesterday and got back to the Miami area before 10pm. We stopped in Georgia at Jeckyl Island to see the Turtle Sanctuary, which was closed (felt like ...

Re: Advice for a Road Trip NY to FL

Thanks guys.
We were thinking of taking a scenic route, but from everything I've read I-95 is the best (plus it has rest stops and bathrooms).
We have borrowed a DVD player and a headphone splitter, thanks for that genius idea!

Advice for a Road Trip NY to FL

Planning a road trip one way NYC to FL. Anyone do this before and have advice on which routes to take or avoid?
Anything wonderful to stop and see along the way? We'll have 2 young kids in tow, so we have to balance the "interesting" with the "get me home as quickly as possible".

Re: yesterday & today

Hart Bay has always been really rough every time I've seen it. Sad to hear about the dead coral in Choc Hole. Have you tried snorkeling Klein Bay, I've heard good things about it.

Re: Most Overrated / Most Underrated

Overrated: Hawksnest Beach- sorry to all who love it, but it just has never lived up to the hype for me. We've been at least once every trip and it's always been quite rough and mediocre snorkeling. Sometimes the beach has been really small and all people huddled on top of each other due to tide or ...

#2 is true (I really dislike the cold).
lprof got it, I didn't find $5000. But after I sold the car, I stashed $500 from the sale in a box in my closet and found it years later.

Re: let's play get to know the forum

Since I brought up the subject of newcomers having a hard time mixing, I'll give it my best to jump in feet first here... 1. I have over 10 computer/tablet devices in my home for 2 adults and 2 children. 2. I declined admission to Cornell University because I didn't want to have my boogers freeze to...

Re: Where IS everybody???

A couple of the lurkers have commented how they do not feel part of the group i.e. referring to the old AOL forum camaraderie. Hey now, I don't consider myself a lurker after several hundred posts... But, shoemak38's post combined with Liamsaunt's comment about a "forum brawl" may bring t...

Re: Locally made jewelry?

I second R&I Patton. Always gorgeous stuff, I seem to not be able to leave there without buying something. I love that they have locally made jewelry. I know that no one else at home will have the same piece. Definitely not like the box jewelry stores at the mall at home.

So sorry to hear. I have a 6 year old daughter as well, and I can imagine the pain you are both feeling. I hope she may find comfort in the thought that she may now have a guardian angel with her always.

Re: Where IS everybody???

For me, the forum helps feed my addiction and gives me the chance to hear about and "see" my favorite place on Earth. BUT, the forum feels very "clicky" and it's obvious to me (as a relative newcomer to the forum) that many forumites have relationships outside the forum. While th...
