Re: St. John withdrawal

St. John Brewery should offer cans so we can bring their beverages to the beach. I believe production is done by Shipyard in Maine so you can occasionally find it stateside.

Re: Vistas for Full Moon photos

Are you looking for a landscape type of shot with moon in the background or a decent shot of the full moon? I ask because the moon is really bright and if you shoot it looking for detail, it going to be at a pretty high shutter speed that won't be good for capturing the landscape. If you're more int...

Ah, yes, STJ and fruity drinks. What could go wrong? Re: The Official OT Food Porn

As evidence by my 'withdrawal' thread, I'm missing STJ a bunch since coming back. Another thing I missed was the Beach Bar's Tuna Bites, tasty tuna wrapped in nori with a light tempura coating. If you haven't tried them, you should! Raw tuna on the inside, crunchy batter on the outside, with a nice ...

Re: St. John withdrawal

Hi Minde, my understanding is that reef fish eat the dead lionfish. I am guessing the fish are left behind to encourage this and hopefully develop learned predator behavior towards the lionfish. The CORE guy said he would sometimes kill more than one per excursion, so he didn't want to come back in...

Re: St. John withdrawal

Pickle, the underwater pics are with the Canon S100 (in Dicapac bag). I like this set up since I prefer to shoot in RAW to better control white balance, etc. The others were taken with a Canon 7D with either a 100-400 or 10-22 lens. Good luck with your P&S hunt.

Re: St. John withdrawal

The northeast US still has lots of snow and leaf-less trees -- so I really miss the plants, cacti and general greenery. http://singlespeedphoto.com/img/s2/v72/p1492429434-4.jpg http://singlespeedphoto.com/img/s1/v54/p1492531974-4.jpg http://singlespeedphoto.com/img/s4/v64/p1492502982-4.jpg http://si...

Re: St. John withdrawal

Hi liamsaunt. It's sort of an interesting story (at least to me). We saw the first one snorkling off of Cobblestone, and while we were hanging out enjoying the solitude of this wonderful beach (the right side is super private), we saw a man off in the distance carrying a big box of trash. He came ov...

Re: St. John withdrawal

nuendelcapcod, we were there at the same time - what great weather, eh? We spent most of our days doing things off the beaten paths. It was really great to hike and snorkle Tektite, Cobblestone and between Salomon and Honeymoon. The coastal rock scramble between Waterlemon and Brown Bay is awesome. ...

Re: High-end point-and-shoot cameras

I've had numerous G-canons and am super pleased I've left them behind for the S100 (the predecessor of the S110). The S100 and S110 are better at low light shooting the the G's and the quality of the shots are indistiguishable in regular light. The only thing I don't like about the S100 is that side...

Re: MORE underwater photos questions

All underwater photos need to be processed. Get a cheap version of photoshop elements and use "auto tone". It will clean up the murky green nicely.
