Give Dominica a try, it is small, with wonderful people, great beaches, a rain forest and a true sense of Caribbean vibe. The USVIs are nice but no longer have the Caribbean feel it had when I lived there in years past.

Dominca is my go to, it is beautiful and the people are wonderful. Great beaches, rain forest interior and a real sense of being in the Caribbean. No cruisers, their true culture shines through.
