Hi Matt, If the frogs are going BRRACCKK, rather than discreet little peeps, then they are the enormous Cuban Tree Frogs, which were set loose on St. Croix by accident in the 1970's. It took them about 20 years to get to St. John, but they have been reproducing very successfully ever since, in spite...

Here's the bad news: Ritz Carlton has (really!) been in active negotiation for several years to acquire Newfound Bay, on the north side of East End, one of the most remote and pristine places left on St. John. Not exactly a beach, and a really long ferry ride, so Maho might be pretty attractive to t...

Just so the wrong information doesn't keep getting passed on: The white-tail deer were introduced in the late 1700's for the hunting pleasure of the European colonists. The numbers remained very low until the last 10 years, now we have an alarming population explosion. Caneel Bay has been encouragin...

Privateer is really not very far past Vie's, the road is fine. There are two sides to the subdivision, one overlooking Round Bay and over to Coral Bay, the other above actual Privateer. There is a another new subdivision past Privateer, around East End Bay, and they are paving their roads, using the...

Tortola
Hi Again Bill,
My opinion on the Flickr photos:
the ones labeled street 4, street 5 and street 6 are all Tortola, the one labeled Parking lot 1 is probably St. Thomas, all the rest are St. John.
1967 was one hell of a dry year here. Got any more?

Hi, i guess I do look old, but I know exactly where all of those were taken. Two notes: The old Chase Bank building is NOT Mooies...it's on the next street up, next to Lime Inn/Pink papaya--has had a variety of retail businesses over the years. The photo with the wall on the right-- that everyone th...
