Re: Thief at Solomon Bay

One snorkeler claimed that he stood in the water at Little Lamshure and watched a mongoose open the zipper on his small cooler and take his sandwich.

Oh, that's gone up. On our last trip the base cost was $0 and we gave her $50.

Re: Private taxi cost.

The $20 includes the bags. I, like mdcoles1, give her $50 for the two of us.

I too remember you through your posts. It can't be ten years since your trip! Augie's wife Leslie posts here from time to time under the name EagleRayLover. They now live on St John. Augie and EagleRayLover are among the animal shelter's biggest supporters. Perhaps you can find the time to return to...

Re: Time from airport to to Red Hook

Rachel is still around. She would be happy to take one person. At what cost? I don't know. On the time issue, I have gone from STT to RH with Rachel in about a half hour. This will likely start another fire storm, but, when I took the public taxies, it took :45 to a full hour. They tell me that you ...

Re: How are the bugs?

In my experience, Maho and Francis were always bad. Maho got much better when they dried out that area across the road from Maho and put in the parking lot. I think the problem at Francis is similar due to the wooded and wet area to the right as you come into the beach. The solution may be to move f...

Re: What was your first impression of St. John?

I was going to PR for business in the mid 90s. My wife came with me on a few trips. We spent a couple of days on our own looking for things to do. When we felt like we had done everything we wanted to do, I called our travel agent (there is that archaic profession again) and she suggested STT. I can...

Re: Taxi service from Airport to Red Hook...Live and Learn

My friend Pia is correct. What she overlooked is that the shared taxi will also charge for bags. It seems to vary, but I think $3 per bag is a good number. If the two of you are carrying 2 bags each, you can add another $12 to your $30. You are now at $42. After the third intermediate stop, ask your...

We've had good luck with Emerald Beach hotel. It's very close to the airport, has a restaurant, and it has a pool and beach.

Re: Food

I agree with Pulley, Ron and Theresa_Rea. Although I like the idea of supporting STJ businesses, the quality and price of the meat have concerned me. We travel 12 to 14 hours from our kitchen to the villa. Our Polar Bear cooler and tech-nee ice do the job. We freeze the meat a week before we go. We ...

Sad? I think it is sad that the most popular thread for the last several months is the one about how no one is posting here anymore.
