Re: What was your first impression of St. John?
Thanks for posting this Littlecheeze as I enjoyed reading through the responses and thinking back to 1983 when we first visited. I read about St John in National Geographic in the middle of a cold winter night in 1981 when the snow was drifting outside my window. The pictures were fabulous. Not to l...

Is Iguana Road to LaLepinII treacherous?
We are considering this Villa for 2018 and I just read some old posts from 2007 about Iguana Road being a treacherous drive. I have driven all over St. John since 1983 and although I won't do Lamshur and I am confident about driving almost anywhere else that is paved. But I wonder if someone can give...

Tennis Villa and Kabej Patch- mosquitos?
We are looking at both villas for next April (2018). Kabej Patch seems very close to Chocolate Hole Pond and I am wondering about bugs there. Tennis Villa looks to be slightly above Great Cruz Bay, close to the Westin and I also worry about mosquitos there although not as much. We have rented villas...

Re: BillVT’s St. John Trip Report: Preface
Hi Bill. I think that you will like Zootenvaal. We had been curious about it since 1983 when we first started visiting St John with our daughters. Last year my wife and I spent five nights at one of the one bedroom cottages and loved it. The inside had been redecorated not long before and it was ver...

Re: When and/or was your 1st Time on STJ
Well I thought I would have the earliest first time but Sloop Jones (who we had the pleasure of meeting at his store last february) beat me by a mile. We first went to Cinnamon Bay in 1983 with two kids ages 1 and 3 and fell in love. We had never camped anywhere but found the cottages to be fine and...

Re: Thoughts on a two week stay off season, one villa or two
Well it is hard to say without knowing how often you have been and where you have stayed before. However my wife and split our 10 day stay this winter between Coral Bay (Estate Zootenvaal) and a Star Villa studio in Cruz Bay and we really liked the experience of staying in both places. We have been ...

Re: HIGH SEASON DREAMING
We went on the Monday after Presidents week last year and returned on Thurs. March 3. Round trip fare was $296 each through Travelocity. One way was direct Jet Blue, coming home was changing in Miami on AA. All pretty good times.

Re: Favorite place to stay where you can walk to town
I don't think it does. The house is to the left of Battery Hill (but right next door) as you are facing Battery Hill from Frangipani Street. I think that it would have to be in front of Battery Hill to block the views although it might block some views from windows on the left side of Battery Hill. ...

Re: Favorite place to stay where you can walk to town
We stayed at both Battery Hill (once) and Lavender Hill- 3 times- about 15 years ago.The two bedrooms at Lavender Hill are the top two floors of each building and they are much larger than Battery Hill. The upstairs bedroom was about as big as the entire downstairs and had a living room set in it. T...

Just remembered - Star Villa has some two bedroom places. Like St John Inn you can walk into Cruz Bay.

Re: Accomodations to sleep 4 for 2 nights.
The St John Inn has a two room suite. Not sure if they require three days but you are off season. We have stayed in this suite twice for a few nights. It has a nice outdoor private space.

Trip Report 2/22-3/3
This was our first longer trip alone except for a three day visit in 2001. We had gone most years with our kids in the 80's and 90's and had returned in 2012 and 13 with adult kids and grandchild. Since we had never stayed in Coral Bay we decided to split the trip up with 5 nights in Coral Bay and 5...

Is access to Denis Bay beach private?
Looking over VI news and trip advisor posts there seems to be some confusion about access to Denis Bay beach from land. It it legal to park at Peace Hill and follow the trail down to the beach. I understand that a private home there owns land behind the beach but do they also own the land access to ...

Laundry in Coral Bay or Cruz Bay?
We are staying at Zootenvaal and Star Villa and neither lists washing machine under amenities. Does anyone know of a laundry?
