OK. I'm diligently reading every single message here before I start asking a million questions, but I have to stop here. We go to Florida alot but I don't go in the water much, so I don't worry about sea creatures. I DO intend to learn to snorkel in STJ, though. Do I need to worry about these things...

I don't know if this would be up your alley or not, but I recall a bunch of historical exhibits here:

Really well done! My daughter was fascinated.
Take a taxi there, not a bus. Dangerous area to be walking in.

There's a musician on youtube who posts amazing covers of songs but won't let on who he is. It kills music lovers that he won't "come out." Joshy reminds me of him :) The youtube guy is fretkillr. He's my hero. Wow, thank you for that tip, mindehankins. That fretkillr youtube guy is my he...

You guys are so wonderfully helpful! Thanks! I'm going to buy a mask, because I'm pretty sure I'll be doing this again. And the tip about them being covered by insurance was priceless (or worth about $60)! Thanks!

Snorkeling for people who wear glasses

I wear glasses and can't see a thing without them. I want to learn to snorkel in May when we come to St. John. Am I better off getting contacts, or a prescription mask?
Thanks for your help!

Toni, we're in Jamestown. I'm thinking you may be,as well, or close :) Yes, our dogs get crazy when we start packing, but so do the kids!!! If they catch us packing, they're dying for all the details! We have three young adults still living at home, and we never say a word to them about going away, ...

All right, I guess that I have a FEW more literary purchases to make! You certainly are a friendly bunch! Just reading posts, I was so impressed with how kind and cheerful you are. As if there's anything glum about an island paradise...LOL. Right off the bat, I am faced with several decisions: 1) I'...

I recommend picking up a copy of Gerald Singer's Off the Beaten Track in addition to Feet, Fins, and Four Wheel Drive. Between the two, you'll be fully equipped!
OK thanks! Will do!

1. In PA school I was working with an ER doc who was getting ready to leave for the month of Dec. with his family, to STJ. I said how can you do that on an ER doc salary (they don't make allll that much) and he told me about Cinnamon Bay. I looked it up and said "I'm going there someday." ...

Newbie intro

Hi folks. I wanted to introduce myself, as I'm new to your forum and to STJ. I'm Minde, late 40's, coming to STJ from just South of Buffalo, NY, in May. I hate being on a trip, and 1/2 way through discovering something that would have made life so much easier if I'd just known that at the beginning!...
