I think you'll definitely need a car/jeep. Distances to the beaches vary. As someone said earlier, Maho is right on the road where Salt Pond is a bit of a walk down an unpaved walk (and then it's up again at the end of the day). None of the walks are too long (except Salomon I think). Hawksnest has ...

I just sent a box (big one) to Connections via Priority Mail and it took about 4-6 days. It was great, no fuss not muss. The box was 16x16 and weighed 33 pounds. Connections charged $25 to hold. Well worth it!!

Weather watch

As an old St Johner I know I shouldn't watch the weather reports but by chance I checked the long range forecast starting 2/17. It shows rain and wind for 2 days. I'm sure it won't rain all day but when you look at the picture and all they show is clouds with rain you begin to wonder and get a littl...

I've stayed on St John 6 times and am coming down on 2/17 for the 7th. Each time I rented a car months ahead of time. I've never stayed at Caneel for more than 1 nite (this time we're staying 3 nites after being a villa for 9 days) so we never needed a car while there. Cars are hard to come by durin...

I rented a villa 2 years ago which I loved. When I got back home I posted on the forum how great it was then when I wanted to rebook it the following year IT WAS GONE!!!!! The entire winter was sold out. I actually booked this winter's trip over a year ago (booked Feb 2010 for Feb 2011). Therefore, ...

Possible building site

I'm going down to St John in Feb renting Island Time which is right on Devers Bay. I just looked at the new Google Earth pix and noticed what looks like a HUGE building area right across the street. Not the area where Pond Bay is but further down the road. Does anyone know what this is?? Is it somet...

We love Caneel. Actually we'll be there for 3 days in February. We're rental a villa from 2/17/10 -2/26/10 and then go to Caneel for 3 days. It's great!! We play tennis, hang at the beaches and just relax. I highly recommend it.

GREAT VIDEO!!! I've seen a lot of video from Earl but this one really TELLS you what it looked like and what happened. As an old film/video editor I'm really impressed by your techniques and timing and effects. Thanks Cheryl for putting it all together. So sorry to see what was lost on the island bu...

Not that I know anything about USVI law, but shouldn't the villa reimburse you for the four days you lost when they kicked you out. In New York it's called Constructive Eviction so check your contract with the rental agency and see what it says. Good luck.

Villa Bijou looks great but you don't need 3 bedrooms for 2 couples. We stayed at Island Time at Devers Bay and loved it. As a matter of fact we're booked for 9days in February. They are managed by Caribbean Villas. Check it out. But do it fast, it books up really quickly.

I noticed the same thing for flights from NY to STT. We are also going in Feb and were able to book non-stop on AA but only on weekdays (going and coming). Friends need to fly back on Saturday and the non stop flight is not offered. We've always flown on Saturday on the non stop flights but no more....

I loved Island Time but it's haunted. Don't book it!!!!
I guess I'm kidding. I love this place but don't want too many people to know about it. If you book it you'll love it.
