Did I tell you all that we read "Skinny Dip" for book club? People here at work had been raving about it, and I really liked it. I think part of why I liked it is because my brother lives in South Florida so the area where the story took place was familiar to me. But it very creative and i...

I loved The Help as I was reading it, but I did feel like the ending was kind of just blah. I think I was expecting more, if that makes sense. The book was so dynamic and then the ending was ho-hum. Or maybe it just didn't end the way I thought it would... I am glad to see the recommendations on The...

There are some really cute, quaint cottages to stay in down in Key West, and I don't remember them being that expensive. I will see if I can find the link to them.

Sometimes I wonder if McCandless was mentally disturbed or suicidal or something. It all seems odd to me how he went about everything. The Blind Side is awesome, but the Tuohys have written their own book. It is called "In a Heartbeat, Sharing the Power of Cheerful Giving." What he and Lei...

We are mulling a trip in October. No trouble finding plenty of villas to choose from. Not sure yet. Will keep you all posted if it percolates.

I am still reading Into the Wild. Book club is next week, but I only have 30 pages left. I am still not sure what I think of Chris McCandless. I finished the Black Dahlia, and it ended up being OK. I think what bothered me about the movie (and the book) was that it's based on real life, but then it ...

I didn't see that part of the requirement until now. I am not sure that you could walk to town. I think in my PM I told you that when we stayed at Hale Lani, which was a comparable distance that people walked to the Westin and caught a taxi. But that hill is intimidating to me. It is a good little v...

You know, I thought drink umbrellas would be too ridiculous, but I guess I have to have them.

I should be ashamed to say this, because I am a trained bartender, but I've never actually made a mai tai. And since my bartender training was 12, 13 years ago, can someone remind me what's in them :)

I generally get up early on St. John. Without an alarm clock. And stay up. I start drinking at breakfast. I only do that when I have the occasional mimosa at home. And, contrary to what you may have heard about me, I do not hit happy hour every night...at home. But ask Chad and Todd and my friends a...

We did a sunset sail on Breath. It was a really great experience. There were four of us, and two others, along with the crew. Plenty of room on the boat. Definitely got to see a lot of St. John I hadn't seen before (they sail out of Coral Bay). The price was good too.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of some of that stuff.

I know the margaritas and key lime dip aren't technically luau food, but the margarita buckets were end-of-summer clearance and the fruit dip was requested because I made it at another party and everyone loved it!

P.S. I realize this may be a silly question to ask here, but should I do a gallon jug of painkillers as well? Just because that's easy and I have dark rum. Or maybe a sangria because I have a nice bottle of tempranillo that I could use?

Lulu's Luau - food help (as always)!

So, Miss Lulu is having a luau. Of course, the drinks (regular and strawberry margaritas and a vat of rum punch) are under control. The food, however, is a whole 'nother story! I wanted to do just appetizers and small bites, luau inspired. So far I have: ham and pineapple skewers, teriyaki chicken w...
