Re: Need a new credit card with travel benefits

Over the years, we've traveled to many Caribbean destinations on American Aadvantage miles. But we've found it increasingly difficult to find the flights we want on AA (unavailable travel dates, too many miles required), so we switched to the Capital One Venture card. We've been pleased with the swi...

Both have on-site parking. Grande Bay's parking is covered.

Here's another tip:

- Become an elite member of a certain airline if one of the perks is no baggage charges.

Re: Airfare Post Christmas OMG

On March 15th, we booked January flights from DC to STT on American for $475.

If we were to purchase them today, these flights would be $912.

Re: Making SJ affordable during high season?

We're January visitors to St. John. Here are our tips to make it more affordable: - Use frequent flyer miles - Book a longer stay and negotiate a discount on lodging - Pack/ship some groceries, especially pricier items (coffee, cereal) - Stay within walking distance of Cruz Bay (Battery Hill, Lavend...

Re: How do you dry your beach stuff...?

We hang our wet things outside on the deck furniture to dry , but never on the deck railing. We think that looks tacky.

Re: Need advice on choosing a villa for family vacation

Heidi, You are correct in thinking that noise from the Cruz Bay bar bands can be heard at Battery Hill, Grande Bay, Lavender Hill and Gallows Point, and probably in that order. It's a matter of proximity, primarily. We usually stay at Battery Hill, so we're well acquainted with this issue. But there...

Re: Condo rental recommendation

Although I've only toured Gallows Point and Grande Bay, here are my observations on the Cruz Bay condo scene: If a view is important, you'll have more windows in your unit at Gallows Point and a wider choice of views (harbor vs. Pillsbury Sound) than at Grande Bay. The Gallows Point units are genera...

Re: Oh no! First-timers leaving in a week, lots of questions

I agree with MN_Bhoy about choosing taxis over renting a jeep. Minimum jeep rental per day is $75 and, depending on your mileage, you could spend $75 filling up the tank before you turn it in. If you had 4-5 in your party, the jeep would make more sense. My advice: rent a jeep for the days you want ...

Re: Happy Hour Help

We like Spyglass, just above Joe's Rum Hut in Wharfside Village.

Great prices on drinks and appetizers, great second-floor view of the harbor.

May be under new management and things could have changed since February, but we suggest giving it a try.

Re: Condo recommendation

Suggest you consider Battery Hill.

Of the nine units, eight of them have two bedrooms.

A bit more of a walk than Grande Bay and Lavender Hill, but most BH units are less expensive.

Re: The reason behind when you go to STJ

We visit St. John in January -- to escape the historically coldest month stateside. That said, the last few years have proved history (and us) wrong. Last January wasn't very cold here in DC, and we came home to below-normal temperatures from February through May. We're hanging with history, however...

Re: Battery Hill

We've stayed at Battery Hill for extended periods over the last few years and definitely give it a thumbs up. We think it's the best condo value on the island. Unlike most condos, the Battery Hill units have windows on all four sides. Depending on the unit, this may mean more views, but it definitel...

Re: Verizon coverage

Last January, we checked before and during our stay about Verizon's policies. In both cases, we were told that, as long as we didn't make/receive voice calls or send/receive picture texts, we wouldn't be charged extra. In other words, non-picture texts, email and web access would be free. (Our plan ...
