Re: not really a trip report

Hi NJ, we spend every afternoon at the pool, and have rarely had issues with mosquitos at all. There's not a lot of standing water out there on that peninsula between Chocolate Hole and Hart Bay, and the breezes are really great too, so maybe that helps. The pool is a great temperature since it face...

not really a trip report

My bride and I enjoyed our 5th trip to St John from August 6-12th. We stayed at our usual spot, http://www.longviewvilla.com and enjoyed it as much as ever. The weather cooperated wonderfully, we came in just after Bertha and didn't have many issues with mosquitos until the very end of our trip. We ...

Re: More about Mosquitoes

We've been on island since Wednesday 8/6, staying out between Chocolate Hole and Hart Bay. The mosquitos have been non-existent for the most part. We had a couple in the house yesterday, but by and large they haven't been around. We drove to Little Lameshur this morning and I expected to get devoure...

Re: Longview villa questions

It's a great villa for the price, in my opinion. If your parents are OK with stairs, they should be fine. But the pool is on the lower level with the smaller bedroom and bath, and you have to climb the outdoor stairs to get to the living/dining/master bedroom. The tiled stairs can get slick when it ...

Re: Longview villa questions

My wife and I have stayed at Longview twice (2012 and 2013) and we're returning again in August. I'll try to answer your questions, and feel free to ask any other questions as well. The great room is comfortable for us with the ceiling fans running at a good clip. There is good cross-ventilation thr...

Re: Restaurant recommendation for birthday dinner

I'm going to swim against the current here. If I were on St John for my birthday, I'd want to eat somewhere unlike anything I can get here at home in the US. I can eat steaks, italian, sushi, etc at home. If I had to choose one meal out when in St John, I want to eat local style Caribbean food that ...

Re: Dingy Rental

We rented a center console from Noah's in early April. We took it for a half day and really enjoyed ourselves. Last July we rented a smaller dinghy and didn't really enjoy the experience, it was a slow, bumpy, uncomfortable ride. I'd highly recommend spending the extra $$$ and get the larger dinghy.

Re: Grande Bay parking ???

Hi Sherry, we just returned from a stay in one of Tracy's units at Grande Bay, and we rented a 4-door Wrangler during our stay. The parking space that we had was at the very end of the garage. It's not so much that the spaces themselves are tight, it's more an issue that the main "lanes" t...

Hey Terry, it's Shannon (Dawn and I went out with you guys with Captain John 2 years ago). We're staying at the same place from 2012 and 2013. http://www.longviewvilla.com Folks, honestly, I don't recall specific days and beaches. The kids enjoyed Maho, Cinnamon, Trunk, Jumbie, Francis, and Little L...

Trip report - spring break with kids 3/27 - 4/2

I took my 17 year old daughter and 13 year old son down for spring break. We stayed at Egret's Rest at Grande Bay http://www.vrbo.com/437202 and cannot say enough about how perfect the unit was for our needs. The reserved parking space plus the ability to easily walk all over Cruz Bay whenever we wa...

You know it's been a good trip when....

your daughter comes into the family room sobbing, saying "I don't want to go home!!!"

She's 17, and one quarter away from graduation and attending college down at the beach. But she brought Dad to tears by saying how great this trip was.

So, how crowded will it be this weekend?

I'm headed back to St John this Thursday. The last 4 trips have all been in June/July, so I have no frame of reference regarding the "crowds" around spring break time. Should I expect to have to arrive at beaches early to get a parking spot? How about dinner reservations? We're staying at ...

Re: Lobster on St. JOhn

FYI....I paid $51 for 1/2 of a medium sized lobster (+2 sides) at the Lime Inn in November. I thought that was excessive. I did ask what size and when told "medium" I thought it would be the whole lobster. What does 1/2 a lobster include?? 1 claw and half a tail, or just the tail or only ...
