If one was to re-locate to St John what is the best and cheapest way to get a 27ft boat down to the islands ?

Just made reservations at Gallows Point for July in 2014 , this will be our first trip to VI but not the last. When traveling from St. Thomas to St. John to get to your villa how is your luggage secured , do you keep it with you at all times or is there a place on the ferry to stow it. Thanks
