Re: Cinnamon Bay Campfires
There are charcoal grills, you can build a little fire in them --no unenclosed fires allowed.

Re: Vintage St. John travel video
Never a golf course at Caneel--or at Little Dix; there's not enough water available to irrigate greens most places in the VI. This film is difficult to sort out because the footage goes back and forth between Caneel and the Buccaneer on St Croix. The Buccaneer looked similar to Caneel in that era, a...

Re: Vintage St. John travel video
Need to point out again, that more than half of this film is St Croix, there's also some st thomas, and the date is late 50's--no rental cars on St John.

Re: Great Video
That's because more than half of this is St Croix (The Buccaneer Hotel) and some is St Thomas (Carib Beach, at Lindbergh). All you see of St John is two shots of Cruz Bay and a lot of the brand new and barren Caneel. Date is 1959 +/- 1 year.

Re: Things Change...then change again--& again
Henry ran Tradewinds Charters out of the tiny building right on the street there below Phil's. I think it's part of St John Editions now. We pushed the limits pretty often on how far --and with how many on board--we could go, in a 20ft sailboat.

Re: Things Change...then change again--& again
The Out was in a building where Mongoose II is now, in the mid-1970's. The building at various times was the Downtowner, the Sandwich Shop, Mugsies, The Booze Boutique and at least one more incarnation I'm forgetting. The Purple Line was upstairs in the original Mongoose Junction, sort of where the ...

Re: 2 days in the BVI
Jost might be a bit limited for two nights. Have you been to Tortola or Virgin Gorda? Tortola pluses: easy to get to, affordable accommodations, great hiking on Sage Mountain, plenty to explore. Minuses: years of trying hard to turn into St Thomas-- but it does still have many unique and pleasant sp...

Given what you described, there seem to be two possibilities: 1) This is an exotic snake that someone released from captivity, let's hope not a Burmese python. 2) What you saw was actually an iguana. I mention this because iguanas very frequently fall from trees into the water when humans walk under...
