Re: What was your first impression of St. John?

Much like the "salmon of Capistrano," I return to this wonderful forum every spring in preparation for another trip to the Rock in June. And every year about this time, I look for a good post to reinsert my ignominious self into the message board...and Littlecheeze, your post looks like th...

Re: Tourist Trap Larry's Retirement Plan

The hike back up to the hill to the Salt Pond Bay parking lot was always easier knowing there was a frosty Drive Left Drink Right, a lobster roll and a jovial man drinking beer out of a can next to some Rock'em, Sock'em Robots awaiting me around the corner.

God speed into retirement, Larry.

Re: Norman Island or nearby snorkeling

Most of the more popular BVI snorkel stops are located near Norman island - The Indians, The Caves, The Aquarium, Spyglass, The Wall, etc. And that's the way you'll usually see them described and I think just about every private or group charter motor boat out of STJ frequents these places provided ...

Re: Insect Repellent suggestions?

Would certainly not recommend DEET if you're allergic or have some other ill reaction, but we've found success using a very concentrated version of DEET, like over 95% DEET. It's a small bottle, think of it like DEET cologne. And I apply it to my skin like cologne...ankles, backs of knees, elbows, b...

Re: Yay! Upcoming trip and some questions

It's been about 15 months since my last visit, but headed back this June and have been doing similar research and here's some insights I've picked up: 1) Heard news that the bar in Red Hook has been upgraded a bit, but I think it's still very much a bar and food options are limited. There are some p...

1 night/1 morning at Marriott Frenchman's Reef?

Two couples and four kids (ages 12 to 5) staying one night on STT before going over to STJ. We'll check in to Frenchman's Reef (the hotel) about 5pm on a Friday evening and will have to check out by 11am. We'll have jeeps, but figured we'd stay close to the hotel until it was time to check out. Any ...

Re: Extra Adult Charge?

Case closed. That was it. Thank you, Liamsaunt and thank you Ed and Teresa. Forum wins again. Didn't realize it was $40x2 as it reads like $80x1. I'm also not used to people just assuming I'm lying when I tell them two of our occupants are children under 12, but I guess that's the world we live in. ...

Re: The Island Hydrator

Can we make that, "shot(s) of coconut rum?" :D

Not sure what's in Skinny Leg's Coconut Swizzle, but sounds like they're similar and they're damn good.

Re: Extra Adult Charge?

Thanks to you both. It is Frenchman's Reef. And hoping it's for a 3rd adult because our kids are both under 12. I'll gather some more intel, hopefully hear from Liamsaunt and then I can could call to confirm knowing the facts. Unlike a non-refundable air fare, I definitely have plenty of time to can...

Extra Adult Charge?

Even when I do read the fine print, I still don't understand the fine print! Need some help understanding the "Extra Adult Charge" for a hotel. We are spending the first night on St Thomas at the Marriott. We're taking a later flight to save money and my wife wanted to take the pressure of...

Re: Experiences with spirit air

Ridgerunner...same deal except with AA instead of Delta...from DFW to STT, we could not ever get below $710 and actually considered for a second taking Spirit again since we were coming back on the 3rd of July and had the 4th as a buffer, but ultimately couldn't do it. It doesn't seem like that long...

Re: What the what?

Wow, there are responses and then there are RickG responses. Super thorough. They paved the street to Francis, huh. I would imagine all the car rental companies went in on that one. Not crazy about more concrete on STJ, but that stretch was brutal on suspensions, I remember that. Probably going to t...

Re: What the what?

AwardB, good to know as we've done the Caneel Parking route before to Honeymoon. Even though I wasn't a big fan of the fee, our group didn't mind because it was easy to drop $20 or whatever it was at the time at the bar or gift shop (things we probably would have spent money on at some point that da...

Re: What the what?

JMQ...I think people are usually too quick to toss out the OMG, but seriously, OMG. That is absolutely insane. If I'd been following that truck up the hill I would have turned Cruz Bay into Brown Bay if you know what I mean. How did they even begin to get that cleaned up? As for Gibney...this is STJ...

Re: What the what?

Good to hear from ya, Teresa. Speaking of Deli Grotto...been hearing a lot of good things about the guys that took over there. The menu is pretty comparable, food has remained really tasty and I read somewhere just about everything comes with a Gluten free option. Dinosaurs would be a welcome site c...
