Becky, I believe I read where you do not like to disclose where you and John will be staying ahead of time, so I would like to suggest a contest to see who might be able to guess the villa you two have chosen. It would have no reward other than to make us forumites think about our favorite escape pl...

We will be returning to St John this spring and have found a relatively inexpensive, but seemingly well kept villa called Beas Maison. www.vrbo.com/20585 The family that owns it lives there in the winter and returns to New York during the summer months.

Are you planning to do the bioluminescent bay while you are there? That was the highlight of our trip there.

Returning to St John

I have taken my wife to a number of beautiful places and islands, but our trip to St John 2 years ago is the only one that, when we were leaving, elicited tears from her. So, for our 30th anniversary, we will be be returning. Before we made our first visit, I asked the members of this forum what to ...

Thank you all for your responses; you have saved us from making a potentially grievous mistake. We are grateful. Pickle, your pictures of Cinnamon Tarn are better than their website's. Grommit, our heart went out to you - we would have been devastated if not rightously irate to have gone to ...

Have used an over-the-counter product called "Ocean Potion". It is a gel containing Lidocaine, Aloe Vera and Tea Tree Extract. It helps numb the bites and lessens the itch. Follow this with a dab of a steroid cream or ointment and have something cold in your hand (to prevent scratching, of...

On our trip to St John, we too spent the first night on St Thomas. We spent that night at a lovely small hotel?/villa up on the hill east of Charlotte Amalie called Villa Blanca. We had read some negative comments of this place on another forum, but took our chances, and boy-howdy were we glad! The ...

Welcome Lolli,
We were originally hesitant to "jump in" and join this forum (or any forum) as well. But once we made the leap, we discovered some wonderfully helpful (and thoughtful) people...rpplano included!!

Come on in, the water's fine.

We have been to both of the "Spanish Virgin Islands" and ferried from Fajardo, Puerto Rico (which has a beautiful rain forest above it). The house we stayed at on Culebra was isolated, with marvelous evening breezes, a view of St Thomas, and had a 2-person kayak available for use. The visi...

Maybe I missed it, but never heard anybody else speak to any advantages to buying a RT car ferry ticket like that skipping ahead in line scenario you mentioned. Conventional wisdom here has always been buying one way so you're not tied to one ferry company. We too bought RT barge tickets on the Roa...
