I would go wherever you have not been before. I think St Croix is underrated and we enjoyed it and the island has a lot to offer.

You might consider going to Hook Line and Sinker in Frenchman Town in STT for lunch and then go to Emerald Beach Best Western and enjoy the facilities and a drink and cool dip in their pool before a 5 minute drive to the airport.

You could spend the day in CA while having a Taxi Driver hold your luggage...do some shopping....have a late lunch at Hook Line and Sinker...have him meet you and take you to your hotel at Emerald Beach...relax at their beach and tiki bar and have a nice dinner and you are just 5 mins from the AM fl...

We stayed at Vida de Mar and had 6 adults and 4 kids...Very nice and large compound...views...on the beach....close to Cruz Bay

Perhaps fly out the night before and stay in ATL...then connect the next morning with your original STT leg. We did that this year with AA out of DTW thru MIA. Conrad Sutton was our first choice many moons ago before we started the Car barge routine( easier with or herd of 6). One nice thing too is his Free parking at night although you will be in Coral and might never need that option.
