Re: Car Barge

Saw a local post yesterday that we were down to one barge since the other one didn't pass inspection.

Re: Car Barge

I see you mention American, why so early with American? I have TSA Pre which I understand St Thomas has now. Does that help any? It is American Airline policy that you arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure. Time for arrival for other airlines vary. Pre Check or not you still need to be line...

Re: Car Barge

There has been a third barge that goes into action when lines are really long. Just go to the barge staging area and wait in line. On your return to St. Thomas be sure to be at the barge staging area at least an hour before the barge you HAVE to be on to make it to the airport 3 hours before flight ...

Kiddle Beach

Land access to Kiddle Beach is now blocked due to overuse causing degradation of the road. Too much traffic and inexperienced 4WD drivers have torn up the road. The road to Kiddle is private property. It is owned and maintained by the people who own the beach property. These folks were ok with other...

Re: Healthcare on St. John

Be sure to inquire as to the time needed to obtain results. Some tests need to be sent off island. Just depends on what the test is for.

Re: Insect Repellent suggestions?

If I am going to put a chemical on my body, I prefer Picaridin. It is not as greasy or smelly as Deet.

However, I prefer to avoid chemicals. When the skeeters and no see ums start biting, usually at dusk, I put on long pants and sleeves. The best protection available. It's the island way.

Re: Active Octopi?

When searching for octopi, look in rocky places that provide lots of hiding sites. The give away is the "octopus garden". A pile of fresh shells just outside the entrance to the octopi's hiding hole. Once I knew to look for the "garden", I started spotting octopi. Happy Hunting.

Re: Extra Virgin Bistro - location?

In case you don't know where the Fatty Crab used to be. Extra Virgin is located on the same street as the ferry landing. Walk up the street from the ferry, past the park, past Woody's, past La Tapa, past the police station, before the traffic circle. No view of anything.

Re: St John vs Hawaii snorkeling

I have never been to Hawaii. However, my niece and her husband have been there many times and visited St. John last year for the first time. They much preferred St. John to anywhere they had been in Hawaii. As far as the restaurant with the lounge chairs -- Nothing like that in Coral Bay. In Cruz Ba...
