Go to www.insuremytrip.com and you can compare a lot of different policies side by side. Make sure you read the fine print of the various policies (e.g., they often differ in the amount of time required between two connecting flights in order to make a claim for expenses incurred due to a missed con...

Yummm.... That is exactly the type of food we LOVE, Pia. We will keep it on our "must do" list.

The worst that can happen is we can "try" to make it back to the ferry on time... if we don't make it, then we move to plan B (Slimman's).

Thanks Pia, I figured that's what the answer would be. Sweet Plantains is the one (dinner) restaurant in the Coral Bay area we have on our "really want to try to get to" list. Do you think this restaurant is worth going to all the extra trouble, or should we just save this one for another ...

What time does Sweet Plantains open?

Hi everyone, Does anyone know what time Sweet Plaintains opens in the summer (June)? I tried calling them yesterday, but didn't get an answer. I believe I read they are only open for dinner (let me know if that is incorrect information). Since we're staying on St. Thomas, will we have sufficient tim...

Hi everyone - our family of 4 went to Europe last summer for 25 days. We each carried a roll-on carry-on and a personal item (beach type tote for me, garmet bag that folded in half for hubby, and backpacks for the kids). We had no checked luggage whatsoever! The key: We used ziploc bags (1 and 1.5 g...

Thanks MrsCARolph - actually our rental company, Dependable, will let us take our rental from STT to STJ. I heard Avis allows this as well. I did hear that Hertz does not. Don't know about other companies.

I called the NPS today to get a reservation for June (I read you should book well in advance). They told me the hike would start @ 9:30 a.m. and we'd return around 2:30 or 3 p.m. I believe they said hikes are offered on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The hike is free but the boat transportation fo...

Hi Rick,

Did you check with your car insurance company at home to see if you're covered? If you're not covered there, you should check with your Visa credit card company and see if you're covered.

I do hear great things about Dependable (on several travel boards). We're using them in June.

I wasn't the one that sent you a question, but if you have any information on Dependable (whether or not you recommend them, whether or not they have newer cars, have good customer service, etc.) I'd love to hear about them. We have a reservation with Dependable in June and we plan to take the car (...

Thanks Jorge and Teresa... I know it's more flexible to buy one-way ferry tickets, but if we do decide to go the round-trip ticket route, do both trips have to be taken on the same day? I do like the idea of leaving our STT car rental over night in the secure STJ parking lot, taking the passenger fe...

Oh, great! That sounds like the place to park overnight.

I thought of another related question. Does anyone know if you can buy a round-trip car ferry / barge ticket and use it to go from STT to STJ one day, and to return to STT on the following day?

Wow... great report and pics thus far.

Our family will be going to the USVI and BVI this summer for a first time visit. We are so excited about seeing the beautiful blue waters and white sandy beaches.

Can't wait for the next installment of your report!
