Re: Sailing charter question
We chartered a 50' catamaran in May from Voyage Charters (http://www.voyagecharters.com). They're out of Soper's Hole in Tortola. I have nothing to compare Voyage against since this was our first charter, but their boats were clean and well maintained, and their staff helpful and courteous. I'm happ...

Re: East End Villa Andara
I've never been in June, so I'm not sure if the weather is perfect or slightly less than perfect that time of year. I understand it gets a few degrees warmer during the summer, so I'd anticipate mid-eighties during the day and upper-seventies at night. FYI, a 30% to 40% chance of rain weather...

Re: East End Villa Andara
Villa Andara is beautiful. We stayed there last November, really enjoyed it, and have it booked again this November (will be our first villa repeat). It has a great view of Haulover North and Tortola, is somewhat secluded, is very secure (solid doors with multiple locks), has a nice pool and jacuzzi...

Re: Professional Photos on island
We do professional photos of our daughters while on St. John every other year, and believe it's well worth the time and money. We hired Bob in 2008 and 2010 and had great results. He was easy to work with, economical ($250, give or take, receiving 50 or 60 photos), professional, and creative. He did...

Re: Boating
We face the six-passenger issue every November as well. What we've done in the past when we have more than six: A. Stormy Petrel - They gave us a tour of The Baths, lunch on Cooper Island, a stop at The Caves, etc. This was on the expensive side, but they take good care of you: http://www.piratespen...

We use the CamSafe 200 by PacSafe: http://pacsafe.com/camsafe-200-anti-theft-camera-bag It holds our camera, lens, camcorder, wallet, and keys. It has a combination lock to secure the strap to the bag and to keep the compartment zippers locked. It has a steel wire running through the strap as well a...

Re: New music for ipod
My favorite as of late has been "Mambo Sinuendo" by Manuel Galban & Ry Cooder:

Think 1950's Cuban and surf guitar, blended. It's out there; definitely not mainstream.

We stayed in Fish Bay a couple of years ago and had a great time (Daffodil Villa, nice two bedroom villa with excellent views). Depending on the location of your villa, you'll likely have big water views with St. Croix off in the distance. We enjoyed watching the cruise ships as they left St. Thomas...

We've had very few bad dining experiences on St. John (aside from sticker shock). Our favorites: More Expensive: Rhumb Lines - Scott's Tuna (spicy enough on some nights to break a sweat). Waterfront Bistro - Amazing scallops and the Jalarita (jalapeno margarita), but not much flexibility for kids' d...

We visit Thanksgiving week and the week after, and have never noticed it to be crowded. It's definitely less crowded than in March. Some villa rental companies will charge a little extra for Thanksgiving week (full capacity), but others don't. There are options for Thanksgiving dinner (Caneel Bay, S...

Long time reader, first time contributor... My wife, our three daughters (ages 9, 9, and 7), and I stayed at Caribbean Jewels this past March. It's a very nice two bedroom villa with great views of Coral Bay, the East End, and some of the BVI. We were impressed with how clean, secure and well mainta...
