We were there a few weeks ago and didn't see the manta ray anywhere. We did see a *big* southern sting ray at Maho that I thought at first might be the manta ray.

Hi All,

I'm originally from MS too (ocean springs)! In my opinion, the heat and humidity aren't nearly as bad on St. John compared to ms. The mosquitos are about the same.

Hi All,

Thought I would bump this post to remind everyone that this project is still active. Only 15 days to go till pledges are closed.

Pretty unlikely the project will get funded, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Sounds like a great trip! Thanks for the tip on Casa Tua - we are checking it out for our trip in June this year.

Regarding the rocky entry/exit at Haulover North (and other places), water shoes will help. Crabby's in Coral Bay sells them for $20.

Let the Trip Planning Commence! October or June?

Now that the holidays are over, I need to get started planning our annual trip to the rock. We typically travel to St. John in June. In 2011, we visited St. John during the last week of October on a sorta-last-minute trip. We absolutely loved it!! Very quiet, cooler temps, perfect blue skies every d...

Best Fiction/Nonfiction Books to read pre-trip

Hi All! In the months leading up to a trip to St. John, I like to reread all my favorite fiction/non-fiction books about island life, traveling/cruising in tropical areas, and (of course!) specifics about St. John. Here's my typical list so far, The Beach by Alex Garland Happy Isles of Oceania by Pa...

Thanks for the responses everyone! I think I just wanted to hear that some of you have visited in the same time frame and have had good luck :D Restaurant closures not a big deal for us. We always stay on the East End and usually eat in anyway. We'll keep our fingers crossed & get trip insurance!

Trip in September or October

Hi everybody! I've been a long-time lurker on this forum. There so much great information posted here! My husband and I have been to St. John three times in the last few years. We always go in June or early July. This year, we decided to plan a "last - minute" (for us anyway) trip to St. J...
