1 day visit Christmas Day
My husband booked a cruise that is actually tendering in to St. John on Christmas Day because he knows how much I love it there. I wanted to get a jeep, but the car rentals all say 3 or 4 day minimum and many are closed on Christmas Day. I also know that is busy season on the island. How hard will i...

Re: Anyone been to Alaska?
Thanks, Phil! I think we have decided to put this off a year and if we have plenty of time we will do a cruise and then Alaska on our own, if not we will just do Alaska on our own by land. Hubby is even saying maybe we will drive from Texas. I traveled the Alcan Highway 4 times as a kid. The last ti...

Re: Anyone been to Alaska?
My husband doesn't think St. John is his favorite place, unfortunately, because I know it is mine! Thank you for your reply! Which port was Purple Orca out of?

Anyone been to Alaska?
I am 100% a beach and water, warm weather and snorkeling girl. I lived in Alaska as a girl in the 60s and never thought I wanted to go back. Now I am thinking I might want to plan a cruise or a land vacation up there because of the great beauty, nature, and wildlife. I remember the drive from Anchor...

Re: Long Trip Report October 11-20, 2016
Hey! Loved your trip report and it was great to meet y'all! Thanks for pointing out the spiny lobster! We ended up going to North Haulover 4 times! It was beautiful underwater! We tried the mangroves, but oddly the south side was much choppier than the north and the visibility was really poor that d...

Went out with Captain Karl on Friday and it was a great day! He's a really nice guy and I learned a lot of new things about the island and surroundings.

Re: Trip Report 9.24 - 10.5
Thanks for the trip report! We stayed at Villa Jumbie several years ago and loved the whole house AC, pool, view, etc. I moved higher up on the mountain to get away from mosquitoes, BUT the pool is cooler. Wish I could buy it! How were the beds?

Re: photo and camera tips
Thanks so much for your responses. Yes, Pickle, sometimes I get a really great shot, but more often than not I'm not happy with my pictures! I know cloudy water makes terrible pictures and I have no control over that! TeresaRae, I don't have time to get the filter and learn to use it at this point. ...

photo and camera tips
In my older, retired state I find I am becoming obsessed with nature and love taking pictures! My absolute favorite thing to do is take underwater pictures, but I am finding I also love birds, sunsets, vistas, etc. I own an Olympus TG2 which I have had for 3 years. I had Canons before that. I will a...

Experiences with spirit air
I think I am about to pull the trigger on buying tickets. From DFW Spirit is $200 cheaper than the next closest thing. $337 vs. $537 for a flight with 2 stops. I flew Spirit once and hated it. The layover was too long in FLL, however I got to St. Thomas an hour to hour and a half late. Even with bag...

Re: safe lotion
I have never used it and never needed it, but I have seen it and last year with all the stinging jellies saw where some had used the lotion. I did find this online: http://www.buysafesea.com/safesea_lotion_faq.php. Good luck and let us know if it works for you!
