Re: Grandma Raised The Roof....

I have been looking for this book in used book stores for several years. I recently realized I could request it through inter-library loan. I read it this weekend and loved it. I was struck by the similarities between Mrs. McCully's "building blog" and the St John building blogs I read tod...

I love Captain Phil! Sorry you didn't have a better day for your sail. But you ended the day at Skinny's -- can't beat that! Enjoying your trip reports.

Re: Here now. Current thoughts

THANK YOU for explaining "well drinks." That's been a mystery for me for a while.

Jealous of anyone on island now. I could really use a dose of blue water and sand. No trip in my immediate future.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Re: Traveling Solo

I thought of something else that I think is worth adding here. As I stated above, I felt very safe in STJ. However, both trips required me to stay in STT one night due to the time I was arriving/departing. I was advised by several local STT women residents to be very cautious. I was told to be cauti...

Re: Traveling Solo

I've traveled to STJ solo twice and can't wait to be there again. I've stayed in Coral Bay both times and rented a jeep. I always felt safe. Of course, I was cautious, just like I'd be anywhere. I'm glad to answer any questions you have. Have a great time. There is nothing as relaxing as traveling s...

I have not had Steve Simonsen take portraits for me, but I took a photography class from him. I learned a great deal from him in the few short hours of the course and would have complete confidence that he would do a great job on portraits. And, he's a really nice guy.

Is this the land where Maho Camps is today, or is this a different parcel of land?

Either way it is good news.

I had the same idea and contacted the library. Visitors are welcome to use materials within the library, but you must have a USVI address to get a library card and take materials from the library. I ended up taking books with me that I could leave behind and not have to bring back with me. I also go...

Best burger is Skinny Legs. I can't imagine any discussion about that. I hear people talk about locking their car. However, the advice I have received, and followed, is to leave the car unlocked, with no valuables inside, so theives would not be tempted to damage the vehicle by breaking in. I'm curi...

For what it is worth, I am re-reading with a Painkiller. My second time to make them myself and I got it right this time. :-)

Thanks again for sharing your trip. I am wishing I was there.

Enjoyed your trip reports. Sounds like you had a great time. I, too, am curious about newby girl -- will she be along on the next trip?

Thanks for sharing your trip. I may not get to go this year, so living through other's stories.

I've stayed at Hotel 1829 twice. It is not for everyone, a little rustic, but worked for me. Clean and safe. Be advised there are a LOT of stairs. If stairs are a problem, not a good choice.

For a lower calorie option, I mix Cruzan Vanilla Rum with either Diet Orange Soda or Diet Root Beer.

But my favorite is Dreamcicle at Skinny Legs!
