Thanks for the info. Looks gorgeous. It looks a bit like Maho to me. I also agree it looks a bit like a lake- more of a Pacific Lagoon setting. My personal taste is towards the more blue, possibly rougher open oceanic-type beaches than the greener bay/lagoon-like ones. Hence why I liked Hawksnest ov...

I agree with thebin. Rotis have been a staple in India forever (and we know that India is a very old civilization). They are similar to chapatis, an unleavened flat bread, and filled with whatever you have around, then wrapped. Indians were brought to work in the Caribbean after slavery was ended. ...

I'm hearin' ya. And, as mentioned, it's a groovy joint to hit on the way to/from Honeymoon. And the nachos were awesome. Whereas the fee for Trunk seems to go unnoticed on this thread, I agree that it's more than worthwhile to have a nice shower after the beach, clean restrooms, and pleasant help. ...

We were there probably Dec 18th and we didn't pay anything nor were we asked too nor did we see that sign. We parked in the guest/taxi lot no prob. How old is that sign? We also visited the month before you in November. Like I said, the place is lovely, just not for us.We parked in the same place a...

Our local Costco (NJ) sold ready to make roti dough slices that you just threw on a hot skillet and bam! Fresh hot roti. It rocked but they may not be carrying it anymore- they didn't have it my last trip there anyway.

If I'm not mistaken roti isn't a kebab or a specific meat sandwich- it actually refers to the bread itself. And then of course there are many types of common meat stuffs to have with it. It's not really indigenous to USVI. It's actually Asian, from Malayasia and India specifically I think, and worke...

Funny, I'd reverse the scores for Hawksnest and Cinnamon...I'd go 7.5 for Hawksnest and 10 for Cinnamon :) Glad you enjoyed the trip. We've been 8 times now and the most recent trip was only a month ago and I'm already dying to go back! Maybe I'd reverse them too if I saw Cinnamon first. In reality...

We just got back from our first STJ trip

...And it certainly won't be the last. It really might be the perfect island. Thanks to all on this board who assisted in our many logistical questions. I'll try to attach photos later, but will need help from the wife. We stayed in Greater Cruz Bay area at Villa Bijou. The property exceeded my expe...

Cigarettes, booze, duty free?

Are cigarettes expensive down there or much cheaper?

Also, can you hit the duty free on arrival into the airport or only on on the leg back home?

@thebin-- you can drink the water and use the ice on STJ. Most villas have filtration systems and I never buy bottled water or ice unless it's for convenience. After 13 years of travel to the VI's I have NEVER gotten sick from drinking tap water at the villa or anywhere else. Thanks Gromit. That wi...

have you considered bringing your meats (frozen) & lunch meats on the plane in a soft cooler as a carry-on? It's done by many posters here and works fine for them. We're going to do it for our trip. Also going to send down non-perishables etc ahead of time to Connections to hold for us. Go out ...
