We flew Spirit for the first time this summer. As mentioned, yes if you want the upgrades, then there are add on charges. We did not do any of that (except paid for check baggage) and had no problems. By the way, checked baggage on Spirit was cheaper than checking bags on some of the other airlines....

Could you expand on high pockets? Did you head over to St John's area? was the snorkeling much different than what you see around? Was the price worth it? We are heading down in July and want to take some sort of boat trip but I am just not sure what we really want to do yet.

Let me first say we LOVED Alaska and I would recommend getting there anyway you can. I do have to say the cruise was our least favorite part.
