Thanks again for all the tips. The party was a great success. We did coconut-curried chicken skewers and pineapple shrimp. And of course, having been a bartender in a former life, served Painkillers. Here are links to a couple of photos. http://i45.tinypic.com/ix9vh3.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/14lo3...

awesome. BWP goes on the list too. Can't have too many appetizers - something has to soak up the painkillers.

Thanks!

Thanks - coconut shrimp sounds perfect, also the chicken skewers - might go for jerk instead of teriyaki. I'll put up some pics from the party.

Virgin Island theme appetizers

Hi, all. Greetings from the springy Northwest, which means temps are in the high 50's and rain showers frequent. Two friends of mine are turning 60 next week and Phil wants an island theme to the party. As a surprise I have rented a Tiki Bar, and will play bartender and of course serve Painkillers a...

Trip Report January 20 - 27 2010

We came out to help Randy and Marcia (my wife's sister) celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. I was struck again by the beauty of the island, and in particular the wonderful laid-back ambiance of Coral Bay, where we were staying. So, not being much of a photographer, I like to paint word picture...

Another suggestion: The first two Amazing Rhythm Aces albums were re-mastered a few years ago. They include some great island listening, including "Third Rate Romance", "Dancing the Night Away", and "Life's Railway to Heaven". Not strictly speaking a Caribbean beat - mo...

I can't say enough good things about WW. I have been following their points plan for several years, mostly off, but recently on again. What I have to tell myself is that even though I get plenty of exercise (I'm a runner) I just can't eat and drink the way I used to. One thing that WW has helped wit...

island fever

I was going to post an item about the re-entry rituals people do. I've been pretty useless at work and I've been back for over a month, and almost 8 months to go before I get back. So I start the morning by checking the spicecam. I'm sure I'm the ONLY one doing that. And then the only music I've lis...

Two words: Patrick O'Brian

According to the dictionary, spindrift is the spray blown from wave crests by gale force winds or stronger (8 or higher on the Beaufort Scale). After your comment I had to look it up to be sure I used it appropriately! A lot of my nautical knowledge comes from the Aubrey-Maturin series. I've read an...

Thanks for all your encouraging responses, folks. Glad you liked the Nanci Griffith CD, Ruth. Your play list made me think of her covers of some of those great songs. I thought the video was a hoot as well! The color of the water off Sandy Cay inspired this little item I wrote for Captain John, alth...

Trip Report April 4 - 11

Hi, first time posting to this forum. My wife Sharon and I live in Seattle. We spent a lovely week as guests in Reef Madness Villa with my wife's sister Marcia and brother in law Randy. Spent our time doing typical island things, including a highlight island hopping adventure on Captain John's Palma...
