Hurricane Season

Does anyone know where I can find statistics on the frequency of tropical depressions that hit the USVI area? We have been coming so St. John for 3 years now and we are trying to plan the dates of our next trip. We were first trying to get there toward the first of June. But the villa we wanted isn'...

Blast!!

Blast!! Tell them to shut the hell up. It gives me relief to think that it actually takes effort and experience to do St. John cheaply. It actually get's cheaper for my wife and I every time we come because we know how to stay, ferry over, which grocery store to buy from, etc. I think St. John can b...

I went with a guide once fly fishing near Annaberg and then to the Coral Bay area. We didn't catch anything but we saw severl bonefish and sharks.

To give the guide credit, I'm a freshwater fly-fisherman. I couldn't get the cast down correctly on his heavy wieght fly rod.

Jeep

I've never had any experiences of theft on St. John, nor have I heard of any theivery (Is that a word?) We always lock our Jeep when we go to the beach but I can't imagine that it's even that necessary. I don't carry any cash above $20 anywhere when I travel and I keep my camera on the beach with us...

Southern Accent

No prob MahoJim, you'll sound like my mother. She doesn't sound like Paula Dean or anything but she has a southwest Oklahoma twang that gets lots of attention in places like St. John. She's a hit anywhere she goes.

Bostonites

I agree. I think this place transforms most people into who we really should be. If this place doesn't cool you out and make you a fun lovin person...you ain't gonna ever be one

Shipping Stuff

I would love to ship everything down ahead of my trip in the interest of traveling light but I do not trust FedEx or the USPS. That would suck if they lost your stuff.

Bostonites on St. John?

Why are there so many people from Boston on St. John? My wife and I have noticed that we have maybe met one person from New York on St. John but have met countless people from Boston there. I wonder why? We always enjoy them. Their always pleasant. My mother also noticed this phenomenon. Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks for all of the great responses. I think I'll try to rent from Dependable. However, I am taking some first timers this time and I wonder if the ferry into Cruz Bay is a better experience for first timers? I definitely want them to be as mystified with St. John as I am and I remember my first t...

Car Barge

We usually rent a car on St. John. Has anyone tried renting a car on St. Thomas and using the car barge to St. John? Is it a hassle? Is it cost-effective?

These are great shots. What kind of camera are you using?

I am looking for an inexpensive (under $250), good quality, underwater digital camera...if such a thing exists.

RE: Ciguatera

Thanks for the reply Hugo. Is it true that it can not be cooked out of fish? Is it also true that once you have it, you will always have it?

So you would say that it is safe to buy fish like Tuna and Amberjack from the local fishermen in Cruz Bay?
