Re: Yesterday's Sunset

Noooooo. How does it go so fast? We're supposed to have a nice day tomorrow, then possibly rain on Sunday. I'm heading to the mountain for a couple hours of spring skiing. :D

Re: Do you sink in sea water?

I often say that I am my own Personal Flotation Device. It's handy most of the time, but if I do want to dive down to see something a bit closer, I always bob back up to the top. So, I have a little bit of stored energy.

Re: Fun forum friends

We should have a Six Degrees of Separation game. I think Minde was the first Forumite I met, and although she says she's shy, she came right up to me at Cinnamon Bay campgrounds to introduce herself. I think she was on her first trip to STJ back in May 2009. Since then I've met a few of you and I m...

Re: Quick trip notes and pix: Sedona and Jerome AZ

Thanks for posting these. We were in Sedona exactly a year ago, just prior to and after we hiked down to Phantom Ranch in the Grand Canyon. We were reminiscing the other day that that trip was the best trip we've ever had without leaving the continental US. So much great scenery. Thanks for transpo...

Re: Carry-on food question

Peanut butter is only a few dollars more on STJ than at home, so if it's a matter of trying to save some money, you probably don't need to worry too much.

Who you calling a sucker? Have a great trip! By the way, we've started to fly out of BDL because of fares and good connections.

Re: Taxi vs rental car

Not sure if you've checked out the taxi fee schedule. That may help you make up your mind. Consider also, that you won't be able to get beyond Coral Bay if you stick to taxis.

Re: What's your STJ frequency?

Because one of my jobs is at a Ski Resort, we try to get away just before Christmas each year. Our normal stay is about 12 days, and always encompasses DH's birthday. For anyone who has a birthday just before Christmas, you know how difficult it is to make it special. It goes without saying that be...

Re: Casual Eats & a Sunset?

Or... variation on the above theme... Pack a picnic of good deli sandwiches, and plenty of liquids, and picnic at Ram Head. If you do that, I recommend a stop at Blue Cobblestone on the way out for a snorkel. Leave your snorkel equipment at the beach when you hike out to the point and pick it up on...

Re: Casual Eats & a Sunset?

Casual eats and sunset in our house means a late afternoon snack at Tourist Trap, possibly the pulled pork nachos and a drink, and then a hike out to Ram Head to watch the sun go down. The timing can get tricky, because you've got to allow for the approximately 45 minute walk to Ram Head. This mean...

Re: 1st time visitor Coral Bay-where to stay?

I noticed you mentioned that you'd like sweeping views in an earlier post. This property might give you those http://www.vrbo.com/93862 , and it comes in under your budget. Again, I don't know anything about the property... sorry. Not actually in Coral Bay, but I think most of us would agree that A...

Re: How long could you stay?

Our longest trip was two weeks, our shortest was one week. We've sort of settled with a 12 day stay as our normal length. But, I think three weeks would be awesome, and I bet we'd find fun things to do every day. I seem to have so much more energy for playing outdoors when I'm on St. John.

Harbor Place Too http://www.vrbo.com/279907 was mentioned in this thread http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/virgin-islands/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24906 . I don't know anything about it, but it's pretty close to your budget. You might ask the owner if they'll take $250 per night since there are ...

Re: Full moon hike - Ram Head

We do a sunset walk to Ram Head a couple of times per trip, not only on Full Moon nights. A matter of fact, I think we've only done it once when there was a full moon, and it was obstructed by clouds. The only tricky part of the hike is when the trail heads up from Blue Cobblestone on that last str...
