I live in the Caribbean (Turks & Caicos) and work every single day over a VPN connection. Shouldn't be an issue in USVI..!!!

My prayers to your brother and your family. That is a terrible stretch of road - I have driven it many times.

And don't worry about those jerks on that message board. You have enough to worry about as it is.

Keep us posted.

I use Facebook and I don't have any issues with it. You can set your privacy settings to allow only your friends to see stuff. You can block people if you find that necessary. I have two children in college and it's a nice way to keep up with them. I often chat with them directly in real time throug...

Thanks PA Girl! Glad you enjoy it. I don't want to derail this thread too much but I have to admit that we've been approached by several blog readers and it IS kind of weird! We're not exactly difficult to find in this small country. The thing is, our readers know a lot about us but we don't know an...

Ciguatera is caused by eating fish that feed on fish that feed on coral reefs that are dead or dying. You can just as easily get ciguatera from grouper as you can barracuda. I live in the Turks & Caicos Islands and have been eating the fish here for 20 years. The locals say the same thing about ...

My husband and I (semi) retired to the Turks & Caicos Islands in 2005. It is an English-speaking country; their currency is the US Dollar and it's only an hour and a half flight to Miami. We wanted to be near the ocean and we looked from the Outer Banks and south, down around the coast of Florid...

It's happening here in the Turks & Caicos too. Several developments funded by the banks in question have completely shut down. Condo rentals are dead, prices are coming down and the layoffs have begun.

Thanks for the post! I subscribe to VIOL (among many others) in my Google reader and your post gave me a big smile this morning. Every day we are inunndated with news of bad people doing bad things. Very rarely do you read about good people doing good things. And believe it or not, this was not the ...

We have an Olympus 770SW and have literally taken thousands of underwater photos with it. Make sure all the seals are free of grit and dirt before closing it up. Try a q-tip with alcohol to swipe it down. Ours did eventually leak eventually but we put some miles on that camera. It had been dropped s...

We have used the Olympus 770SW and love it. It's our third underwater camera. The problem with cameras that require a housing is that if the housing leaks, you're out the camera. The Olympus is waterproof and shockproof and is an all around rugged camera. I would also recommend getting a skin which ...

That is just terrible. I really feel bad for them. I felt like GT was traveling back 50 years in time, even in perfect conditions. I can't even imagine how they are feeling right now, fighting for their lives. And I understand wood is not a good building material in a hurrican zone. There's a big r...

Maggy, I honestly don't know if they will rebuild them as they were. One of the reasons GT was hit so hard is because there are so many wooden structures. Any new construction here is done in concrete block. Right now, they are just trying to keep the people that are still there in food, shelter and...
