Steve - We flew through SJU last year and it was a mess! Our connecting flight to STT was cancelled (never got a good explaination why). There were three more flights to STT that day, but seats on those flights were being filled by other passengers whose flights had been cancelled like ours. Suppose...

Flip Flop, I would think 1/2 day would be enough time to walk around to the point where most people get in the water to snorkel the cay. We went last year and didn't think the walk was bad at all, although we did go in the morning before it got too hot. We didn't see any starfish, but did see lots o...

Last year we stayed at Mooncottage. It's near Coral Bay. Beautiful views, well-kept villa, pool, very private. It is the perfect romantic villa for two. The only downside: no a/c.
The website was mooncottage.com The owner is very friendly and will personally answer any questions.

We intend to do carry-on only too. Did it last year, but restrictions weren't in place then. JC, do you mind telling me about Connections? I just e-mailed DSJ to ask about sending a package in advance and haven't heard back from them yet. TIA

What about any of David Sedaris' books? Some of the titles are: Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Denim and Corduroy, Naked. For me, he is laugh-out-loud funny.
Twenty days on STJ? Sounds great! Happy reading.

Another vote for the Inn at Tamarind Court. It's not fancy, but it is clean, easy to find (straight up the hill from the ferry dock), and walkable to everything in Cruz Bay. The manager's name is Stephanie and she's very friendly and helpful. We arrived late in the evening last year and didn't want ...

That Spirit sale must vary greatly by travel days or the better fares do not apply when we want to fly in June. Sat to Sat with one stop in FLL came up as $1,049 for 2 people w/ taxes!

Nic, Just went to the United website and saw $429 roundtrip Chicago to STT. It's been awhile since I've checked airfare, but I think $429 is pretty good. You should be able to get a Southwest flight to Chicago from KC for around $100. We've never driven to Chicago to catch a flight (gas and parking ...

Nic, Last year I booked our airfare from Kansas City to STT thru Travelocity. It was approx $625/person on American. I booked about 3 months out/before our trip. I checked airfare again about a month later and could have saved almost $100/person! I learned 2 lessons: first, don't check airfare again...

We always book the villa first, mainly because we have specific weeks/very little flexibility in travel days. I'll start watching airfare about 6 months out, but usually get nervous and book before I should (last year I could have saved about $100/ticket if I'd waited another week). This year I'm no...

Some places take AmEx, some don't; just like home. We took 2 cards and called both card companies to say we would be using them alot/more than usual while on vacation in the Caribbean. I'd heard of a credit card company temporarily denying authorization because they suspected the unusual/increased a...

We catch a cheap flight on SouthWest from here (Kansas City) to Chicago Midway in the evening, then fly out of Chicago O'Hare non-stop to STT on United the next morning.
Congratualtions!
